Dominic Anderson (born July 3, 1983) is an American football coach. He was the Defensive Coordinator/Assistant Head Coach at Fayetteville State University from 2021–2024. He formerly served as the Linebackers Coach during the 2021 and 2022 seasons. Prior to his stint at Fayetteville State University he served as the Defensive Coordinator/Defensive Backs Coach at the University of Pikeville 2018-2021. He arrived at the University of Pikeville after 3 seasons coaching high school football in South Florida. He was the Head Football coach of South Plantation High School (FL) 2015-2018 where he took an 0-10 team to 5-5. Prior to his head coaching stint in Florida he held the defensive backs position at the University of St. Francis (IL) for the 2014 season. He was the Safeties Coach at Illinois State University 2011-2014. He started his coaching career at his alma mater Wake Forest University in 2010 as a Defensive Graduate Assistant Coach.

Biography

Anderson was born on July 3, 1983, in San Jose, California.[1] He grew up in South Florida where he played Running Back for St. Thomas Aquinas High School (FL) (1997–2001). There he was a part of three State Championship games winning two (1997 and 2000). Anderson attended Wake Forest University, where he played running back and safety on a football scholarship while earning a bachelor's degree in economics. As a sophomore, Anderson helped lead the Demon Deacons to Seattle Bowl where the Deacs beat the Oregon Ducks 38-17. Anderson is skilled in player development on and off the field, with an extensive background in coaching, two Master's degrees, an emphasis in Athletic Coaching (West Virginia University) and an MBA (University of Pikeville). He is a transformational coach that specializes in recruiting high caliber athletes and building strong relationships throughout the development process. He has been noted by his colleagues as a person who is detail-oriented and passionate about developing young men. Anderson is married to Stephanie Gallant and has three children.

Career

Anderson held the defensive graduate assistant coaching position with Wake Forest University (2010), Safeties Coach at Illinois State University (2011–2014), Defensive Backs Coach at University of St. Francis (IL) (2014), before being hired by South Plantation High School (FL) (2015–2018) as the Head Football Coach from 2015 to 2018.

Following his time as a high school head coach he worked as the Defensive Coordinator/Defensive Backs Coach with the University of Pikeville Bears (2018–2021). Anderson serves as the Defensive Coordinator/Assistant Head Coach with the Fayetteville State University Broncos (2021–2024).

In 2021, Anderson played a major roll in the success of the Fayetteville State Bronco's season and was a finalist for FootballScoop's Division II Assistant Coach of the Year. Anderson's defense finished the season nationally ranked #1 in passing yards allowed (112 yds per game), #2 in tackles for loss (9.4 per game), #2 in Total Defense (211 yds per game), #3 in Opponents First Downs (12 per game), #3 in Scoring Defense (12.5 points per game), #4 in 3rd Down Conversions (25%), and #5 in Defensive Touchdowns (5).

Following the 2021 season Anderson and the Broncos went on a historic run winning the CIAA and making the Division II playoffs for the first time since 2009. His defense boasted another stellar year statistically finishing the season nationally ranked #2 in passing yards allowed (131 yds per game), #2 in Fumbles Recovered (17), #4 in Turnovers Gained (28) and #5 in Tackles for Loss (8.5 per game).

Chicago Bears

In June of 2022 Anderson was selected for the Bill Walsh Diversity Fellowship program to coach with the Chicago Bears. He worked closely with the defense coordinator, linebackers and special teams throughout training camp. Anderson was asked to come back and join the Chicago Bears through the Bill Walsh Diversity Fellowship program again in 2023.
