Draft:Doctor Who series 16
The sixteenth series of the British science fiction television programme Doctor Who is expected to premiere in 2026. It will be the seventh series led by Russell T Davies as head writer and executive producer, and the third since his return to the show in 2023, having previously worked on it from 2005 to 2010. This series is set to be the sixteenth to air following the programme's revival in 2005, and will be the forty-first season overall. As with the changes introduced from series 14 onwards, this series is referred to as "Season Three" in marketing, following the production changes and the acquisition of Doctor Who's international broadcasting rights by Disney+.
This will be the third series to star Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor, an incarnation of the Doctor, an alien Time Lord who travels through time and space in the TARDIS, a time machine which appears to be a British police box from the outside.

[edit]A third series with Russell T Davies as showrunner was being planned by November 2023.[1] Ncuti Gatwa, who portrays the Fifteenth Doctor, commented on returning in April 2024.[2] By that June, Davies was working on the fourth script for the series, despite it not yet being commissioned, with filming expected to begin in early 2025, and an expected release within 2026.[3] During an interview on The Graham Norton Show, Gatwa stated that he would be filming the third Disney-produced season of Doctor Who in 2025. The BBC later contradicted the statement, stating that "the decision on season three will be made after season two transmits".[4]
