Derek Brambles is an American musician, songwriter, and entrepreneur. He is best known for his solo music career, his work with bands such as The King’s English and Topanga, and for founding the AI-powered shopping platform, Brambles.ai (accessible at www.brambles.ai).

Early Life

[edit]

Brambles was born in Los Angeles, California, where he grew up immersed in the vibrant music scenes of Hollywood and the broader indie music community. Surrounded by a culture rich in artistic and musical influences, he developed a passion for music at an early age, drawing inspiration from the diversity of sounds in his environment.

Music Career

[edit]
      1. The King’s English

Brambles began his music career with The King’s English, an Afro-pop and indie pop band he co-founded with Eric Johnson. The band released the EP Feel Me in 2014, featuring the standout track "Watercolors." BuzzBands.LA described the EP as “grooving, bouncy doo-wop mixed with tropical-flavored pop, going down easy.”[1] Several songs from the EP, including "Watercolors" and "Mary Jane," were featured in episodes of the hit television show New Girl.[2]

      1. Topanga

After The King’s English, Brambles and Johnson launched Topanga, a project that incorporated psychedelic rock and synth-pop influences. Their 2017 EP Midnight Jungle received acclaim, with EarMilk describing the single "Boomerang" as "vintage mode on a synth-driven single" with a "hypnotic arrangement of layers and textures."[3] BuzzBands.LA also highlighted the single "Shadows," calling it "a bright, straight-ahead, and almost impossibly elastic banger."[4] In 2015, Topanga won the **GoPro Done in One contest** for their song "Hey Stranger."[5]

The song "Boomerang" was later featured in the opening of every episode of the HBO comedy series Sally4Ever, created by Julia Davis.[6]

      1. Jingle Writing

In addition to his band projects, Brambles has worked as a jingle writer since 2012, creating music for major brands such as McDonald’s, Samsung, and Untuckit. He collaborated with Beacon Street Studios, a prominent music house specializing in advertising compositions.

      1. Solo Career

Brambles transitioned to a solo career, embracing a neo-traditional country sound with a modern edge. His solo releases include: - "Something in the Water" (September 2024): A metaphorical exploration of internal drive and nature’s pull. - "Need to Know You" (November 2024): A heartfelt love song inspired by his relationship with his wife. - "The Wrong Thing" (January 3, 2025): A traditional country song reflecting on personal growth through mistakes.

Brambles.ai

[edit]

In 2024, Brambles founded Brambles.ai, an artificial intelligence-powered shopping platform that redefines the online shopping experience. The application prioritizes an ad-free, private browsing, and user-centric approach, challenging traditional e-commerce models by putting users’ needs first. Brambles.ai has been recognized for its innovative focus on user privacy and simplicity in shopping.
