Deon Govender
[edit]Deon Govender, also known as Deon G is a radio presenter and DJ from South Africa. He is most known for working on East Coast Radio in Kwazulu-Natal where he has presented many shows and is currently hosting a weekday evening show from 18:00 till 21:00. Deon G has deejayed at major festivals and concerts in South Africa.
Early Life and Career
[edit]Deon Govender was born and raised in Durban, KwaZulu Natal. He was first introduced to broadcasting and radio at 15 years old, while attending extra tuition as a scholar at Howard College campus (now University of KwaZulu Natal). The campus radio station called DYR (Durban Youth Radio) which was located at the university, allowed him to explore radio and gave him a chance to experience and equip himself in the skill of presenting. He further honed his skills at Red Cap Radio which was a satellite radio station broadcasting to Mr Price retail stores. From there he was headhunted by a program manager at East Coast Radio in 2007. Deon Govender became well versed in mixing music and added "dj" to his resume at this time.
In 2011 he briefly went to 94.7 In Johannesburg where he also syndicated his radio shows to K- FM. He returned to East Coast Radio in 2012.
Deon has Deejayed at major events such as Colorfest, Aquafest, H20 Durban, Rock the Beach and Durban July at Boomtown. He has been the opening act for international artists when they toured South Africa such as Akon, Pitbull, Fatman Scoop, Boyz ll Men, Joe, Chris Brown, Eve, Snoop Dogg, Edward Maya, Hardwell, Afrojack, Jay Sean, Juicy M, T- Pain and Busta Rhymes.
Deon started a YouTube channel in 2011 about his love for cars. Ignition TV asked him to present PetrolHeads on Ignition TV where they showcased the best modified cars in South Africa. He later went on to present Tuned In SA which is also a car show and was screened on DSTV and can now be seen on Amazon Prime. During this time Deon became a well known car reviewer with his online content being widely acknowledged by car manufactures in South Africa.
Over the years Deon Govender has become more than a radio host and artist as his online content is most loved by his fans.
