Chattabal is the notified area in the city of Srinagar. It is bordered by Karan Nagar to the east, Qamarwari to the west, Bemina to the south and Safa Kadal to the North. It is situated about 4kms from the city centre of lal chowk. The area was worst affected during covid 19 and was declared as red zone by the administration.[1] The area is notable for the fresh fish market in Srinagar in which the major varieties of fishes are of local breed and others being imported from various costal states of the country, though many requests from the locals to shift the fish market citing the timely congestion of traffic.[2] It is one of the oldest habitable places in the Srinagar and as part of the old city of Srinagar the houses are built in close spaces with high population density without any fire gaps, as such many fire incidents are difficult to control in the area.[3]
