Chandra Ghimire (born 15 Mangsir 2021 BS corresponding to 30 November 1964 AD) in Dharan , Sunsari District , Nepal .  He is a Nepali poet , essayist and Buddhist figure, and a former secretary of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, l Government of Nepal . He is currently Ambassador to United Kingdom from Nepal. He currently works as a senior policy researcher in the area of trade, trade facilitation, investment, and industrial development. He writes regularly for The Kathmandu Post and other frontline newspapers in Nepal as well. A poet with the ability to weave poetry based on political, social or natural upheavals, Chandra's special talent is to present poetry in a beautiful and gentle manner based on the painful events experienced by the Nepali common people many times. His poems speak fluently in the languages ​​of the Terai, the hills, the Ghasiya, the Haliya, and the Kamaiya and tell the stories of the tragedies of people oppressed by history, religion, power and power, and who are taboo and deprived.

Early life

Ghimire, who spent his childhood in Dharan, began his early education with his father, who was serving in the Indian Army at the time. He had been receiving informal education. In February 1971, while moving to a safer place during the Bangladesh independence struggle, his parents brought him to Dharan city in eastern Nepal . In the same year, primary education began from grade 2 at the Laboratory School in Dharan.  From 1973, he studied from grades 4 to 10 at the Public High School, the oldest school in Nepal in Dharan. Ghimire came under the influence of the literary teachers Chandramani Adhikari and poet Kunta Sharma of that school . After entering Dharan's eldest Mahendra Multiple Campus to study college, he fell in the company of writer friends.  It was the time of the one-party Panchayat system at that time. He turned to the rebellious trend in writing. At the same time, around 1987, some young people in Dharan Nepal opened the literary group 'Arko Jamaat'.  Chandra Ghimire was one of the four main young poets and writers who founded it. Other founders included poets and writers of the same age, Ramesh K.C., Navin Subba and Tanka Ghimire. That literary organization 'Arko Jamaat' started a poetry magazine called 'Margan' to distribute pamphlets with rebellious poems in the Dharan market. In 1989, he entered Kathmandu with the aim of higher studies.

Education and work life

Ghimire completed his school education from the Public High School in Dharan. Then, he completed his certificate level studies from Mahendra Multiple Campus, Tribhuvan University , Dharan, with a degree in Commerce in 1986. In 1989, he completed his bachelor's degree in management from Shankardev Campus, Tribhuvan University , Kathmandu . In 1996, he completed his MBA in management from Shankardev Campus, Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu. In the meantime, Ghimire completed his bachelor's degree in law as a private student in 1996. In 2002, he passed his M.P.A. with a gold medal from Tribhuvan University. After that, he went to the University of Bergen, Norway , from August 2006 for higher studies . From there, he completed his M.Phil. studies. During that study, he got the opportunity to do a research thesis with Professor Pierre Lagrid, a renowned academic figure in Norway.

Ghimire received a prestigious Chevening Fellowship from the UK and spent a few months at the University of York in the UK in 2006. Similarly, he had the opportunity to be briefly trained by American international business expert Professor Robert Lawrence at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Governance in 2010.

Ghimire has been based in Kathmandu since 1989. In 1989, he joined the Nepalese Civil Service as a branch officer. He was promoted to the post of Under-Secretary in 1996 and to the post of Joint Secretary in 2005. In 2006, he went to Bergen, Norway, for studies. After returning to Nepal from Norway in 2008, he continued to serve as Joint Secretary in the Nepalese Civil Service. In January 2012, the Nepalese government appointed him as the Consul General for Nepal in Kolkata , India, and he is currently working as a diplomat in Kolkata.

Writing topic and style

Ghimire is a poet of a unique style in Nepali poetry . He prefers to write in imagery and writes average social poems. However, he has also written poems about love, despair, and sorrow. In recent times, he has written poems in favor of the backward, marginalized, and subaltern , and has written most of his poems attacking the distortions seen in politics and society.  Sometimes entering the village, sometimes entering the city, sometimes climbing the mountains, sometimes descending the Terai, the poet Chandra Ghimire likes to communicate with the people of the land in his poems.

In addition to poetry, he has also been writing essays. Writing essays that express his feelings is considered his specialty.

Apart from literature , Ghimire also writes a sharp pen on good governance and development debates. Several articles written on the shortcomings of bureaucracy in the Nepali bureaucracy have been published in Kantipur Daily and elsewhere.

Writing and major works

After a long hiatus from writing after 1992, poet Ghimire reappeared in poetry writing after nearly two and a half decades. Ghimire, who returned to poetry after a long hiatus, immediately gained attention. Ghimire's first published work as a publicist was ' Don't Touch Me O Poems ', published in September 2012. This book, which came as a collection of poems written in Nepali, was published by Fine Prints, Nepal. His second book, 'Kaathko Bakas', a collection of poems written in Nepali , was launched in 2015 by Shangrila Books of Nepal.  In addition, many of his essays have been published in various formats.

His first solo poetry reading was held in Dharan on October 3, 2012, and the second in Hetauda on October 26, 2013. The third solo reading was organized by Shilpi Theater in Kathmandu on December 28, 2013.

Apart from literature, Ghimire has worked in the fields of public administration and international trade, and has published numerous articles. He has also presented papers at various international conferences. He has also spoken at several forums in Nepal and abroad.
