Carl Scogland Jr. (born January 23, 1987) is an American singer-songwriter from Shreveport, Louisiana.

Early Life

Carl Scogland Jr. was born on January 23, 1987, in Shreveport, Louisiana. His interest in music was sparked at the age of 12 after being inspired by his friend's father playing the guitar. During his teenage years, Carl was involved in multiple rock bands, showcasing his early passion for music.[1][2]

Education and Early Career

Carl attended Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge, where he formed the hip-hop rock band Melomania. The band achieved moderate success in the local music scene around 2008-2009. After college, Carl began working on his debut album Simplicity, which led to his first southeastern tour, including performances at notable venues such as Eddie's Attic in Atlanta.[3][4][5]

Musical Career

Carl's music career continued to evolve with his involvement in various musical projects. Between 2010 and 2012, he was part of the rap/rock band The Revery and also reunited with Melomania for several shows. His sophomore album Complexity was released in 2016, followed by extensive touring.[6]

In 2013, Carl released an EP titled All on Red, which included the popular track "Lemonade." This song became a fan favorite, prompting the release of a music video. In 2014, Carl relocated to Austin, Texas, which posed challenges as he traveled between cities to complete his album.[7]

Recent Works

Carl returned to the studio in early 2020 to work on his third album Identity, collaborating with Austin producer Clint Manning. Identity, released in October 2022, features themes of self-reflection, personal loss, love, and relationship difficulties. The album includes successful singles like "BetterMan," "Video Games," and "You & Me," which received significant attention on platforms like Spotify and Twitch.[8][9][10][11]

Personal Life

Carl Scogland is based in Austin, Texas, where he continues to write and perform music. He is currently working on his fourth album. Carl is married to Elizabeth Scogland, and they live together in Austin.[12][13][14]
