Captain N M Gupta Trophy[1] is a famous football tournament of Assam. It was started in the year 1962. The latest edition of the invitational football tournament was held in 2024.[2]. Many of the prominent football teams from all over India participated in the tournament in different times. Teams from Bangladesh and Bhutan also participated. In latest edition in 2024, Mohammedan Sporting Club from Kolkata paricipated here along with Aizwal FC and Northeast United FC[3] Once upon a time it was the highest prizemoney football tournament with a cash prize of Rs 5 Lakh for champions [4] Assam Rifles was also associated as sponsor of the tournament in past years [5] During the early days of Captain N M Gupta Trophy, neighbouring Karimganj DSA simultaneously organized R.K. Jain Memorial Challenge Shield Football Tournament. Many teams from different parts of India participated in both the tournaments [6] [7][8] Football Club Raengdai of Manipur won the 2024 tournament of Captain N M Gupta Trophy [9]
