Alexander Clark (born February 18, 1992), professionally known as Cadmium (stylised in all caps), is an American DJ, record producer and songwriter.

Early life

[edit]

In 2011, Clark enlisted in the US Air Force[1], leading him down a dual path of service and musical exploration. During his time in the Air Force, he discovered various digital audio workstations such as Ableton, Cubase, FL Studio, and GarageBand.[2]

In 2012, after he discovered David Guetta’s music, Clark directed his artistic focus to EDM.[3]

Career

[edit]

2016 - 2017: Early professional path and debut as Cadmium

During his deployment in the Middle East in 2016, Clark discovered the artist Illenium on SoundCloud[3], which sparked his interest in a new genre and marked the beginning of a new phase in his musical journey.

The year 2017 marked Cadmium's entry into the music scene. Clark released his debut single, "Power of Music," under his Cadmium alias. Concurrently, he embarked on a creative collaboration with fellow artist Rival[4][5], resulting in their debut joint project, "My Illusion." Later this year, Rival and Cadmium debuted on the Frequency platform with the track "Daily," featuring Jon Becker.[1]

2018-2019: NCS debut and rising recognition

On April 4, 2018, Cadmium and Rival signed their first track, “Seasons”, to the British label NoCopyrightSounds, featuring vocals from Harley Bird. Cadmium's association with NCS continued[5], with releases such as "Be With You," "Change Your Mind," and "Willow Tree."

2020-2022: Collaborations and transition to full-time music career

On March 6th, 2020, Cadmium's independent release of "No Friends," a collaboration with singer-songwriter Rosendale, resonated widely on social media, accelerating his audience expansion and overall growth. During this period, Cadmium also began his venture into the live performance scene by becoming a resident DJ at Gentle Bens in Tucson, Arizona, in June 2021.[3] In March 2022, Clark was the opening act for Said The Sky's live performance.[2]

In July 2022, Clark left the US Air Force to embrace a full-time music production career. His relocation to Tampa, Florida, further solidified his commitment to his career.[2]

2023-Present: Debut EP, album and notable performances

On February 10, 2023, Cadmium released his debut EP, "The Arc of Xena Moon," featuring collaborations such as "Meet You Where You Are" with singer-songwriter caravan. In June, Cadmium made his debut on the Proximity label with the single "Dangerous," featuring Adam Woods. Cadmium released his debut album, Elemental, on December 8, 2023. Elemental features singles such as Fly Again, with Evilwave[6], and Got To Me, with Shiah Maisel.

Between May and August 2023, Cadmium emerged as a performing DJ. He performed in venues in Florida including Vanguard, The Ritz, and Celine, sharing the stage with artists such as San Holo, Kaivon, and ODDKIDOUT.[2] Cadmium performed his first headlining show in Seattle on September 22nd, 2023.
