The Bosa League is an old students association league started by old students of Bilal Islamic Institute in Kakiri, Wakiso Uganda.
History
[edit]The league started on the 5th November 2023 with 10 teams and we managed to run it to 4th February 2024. BOSA league was a one leg play and Karegular FC managed to finish on top of the table with 21 points in the 9 games played. The top 4 teams qualified for the Champions league which was played in a semifinal knock out design. The Eites became the Champions of 2023/2024 season and Alnasir the lst runners up.
Achievements
[edit]The BOSA League managed to register the under laid achievements as a new old students'football league:
1. There was strengthening of alumni ties by Reconnecting alumni across different generations and geographies,fostering a sense of community,a shared experience and memories.
2. There was Mentorship and coaching through providing opportunities for experienced players to mentor and develop younger players,sharing their expertise and knowledge.
3. Showcasing league achievements.The league created a hall of fame, trophy case,or website to showcase the league's history,achievements,and notable alumni.
4. The league Promoted health and wellness by Encouraging players to prioritize physical and mental health,providing resources and support for healthy lifestyles,Improving mental health and wellbeing,Providing a supportive environment for participants to manage stress,anxiety,and other mental health challenges.
5. Role modeling for current students. Inspiring current students with positive examples of teamwork, sportsmanship, and alumni engagement as it was well spoken by the principle in his BOSA League mobilization speech.
6. The league preserved the school history and traditions by celebrating the school's football heritage and honoring legendary players,coaches, and teams.
7. Building a sense of belonging by creating a shared identity and sense of belonging among alumni,fostering a lifelong connection to the school and league.
8. Showcasing talent and skills:Providing a platform for players to showcase their skills, potentially attracting attention from college scouts or professional teams.
9. Successful inaugural season: Completing a successful first season/edition, with a smooth execution of games, tournaments, and events is a big achievement for us.
10. Improved teamwork and camaraderie which fostered a sense of com- munity and teamwork among former classmates and friends.
11. Development of new skills: Providing opportunities for players to improve their football skills, strategic thinking,and physical fitness.
12. The league created Networking opportunities. Offering a platform for alumni to reconnect, network, and establish new professional and personal relationships.
Season Challenges
[edit]1. Finding a sense of identity by Establishing a unique identity and purpose for the league,beyond just "old students playing football".
2. Managing conflicts of interest.The management team tried Navigating potential conflicts between individual interests,team loyalties,and league goals within the participants,funders and teams.
3. We have been challenged with Handling injuries and safety concerns through Ensuring player safety.
4. The league has been further challenges with Meeting legal and regulatory requirements related to sports leagues.
5. We have lacked sufficient resources like funding,equipment,and facilities to support the league's operations and growth.
6. The Competition from other alumni leagues where our participants also attended school influenced our Attraction and retention of players in a competitive market.
7. Balancing competitive and social aspects Strikes the balance between competitiveness and social enjoyment.
8. Maintaining league structure and rules through Establishing and enforcing consistent rules,regulations,and policies to enable the smooth run of the competition.
9. Overcoming nostalgia vs.reality.This is the Managing of the gap between fond memories of Bilal Islamic Institute school days and the realities of organizing a successful league.
