The Albany Mudflats Ecological Reserve / State Marine Park is an ecological reserve located in the San Francisco East Bay Area.
History
[edit]The reserve was acquired by lease from the California State Lands Commission in 1982 to protect wetlands and associated fish and wildlife. In 1986 the California Fish and Game Commission designated it as an ecological reserve.[1]

Wildlife
[edit]The reserve encompasses approximately 160 acres of tidal mudflats, salt marshes, and associated habitats. It is an important feeding ground for a variety of shorebirds and waterfowl.[2]
Access and Regulations
[edit]The Albany Mudflats Ecological Reserve / State Marine Park is located north of the Albany Bulb, an approximately 1.2 mile paddle from the Beach. Paddling in the Albany Mudflats Ecological Reserve / State Marine Park is prohibited. The Albany Mudflats are extremely shallow and large mudflats are exposed at low tides.[3]
