Akhil Sachidanandan (born 1993) is a independent filmmaker from india celebrated his impactful short films, which have garnered acclaim at film festivals worldwide[1]. His notable works include Blue Lemon (2022), YES, YOU (2020), Nuttah - The Unborn Heart (2020), Devour (2020), Collab House (2018), Perhaps (2018), and Clown Canvas (2017). Each of these films has received international attention for their compelling narratives and directorial excellence, establishing Akhil Sachi as a prominent voice in contemporary cinema.
Early Life
[edit]Akhil Sachi was born in 1993 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to parents Sachidanandan EG and Suni Sachidanandan. He has an elder sister, Divya Sachidanandan. In 1999, Akhil and his family moved from Dubai to Ayyanthole, Thrissur, Kerala. In 2003, they settled in the town of Irinjalakuda, Thrissur. From an early age, Akhil displayed a keen interest in the arts, particularly painting, which laid the foundation for his creative pursuits.
Education
[edit]Akhil Sachi began his educational journey at Varkey International Private School in Al Awir, Dubai, where he completed his kindergarten education from 1997 to 1999. In 1999, he moved to Thrissur, Kerala, and attended N.S.S. English Medium Higher Secondary School until 2003. These formative years were marked by a strong academic foundation and an early exposure to the arts, particularly painting.
In 2003, Akhil transitioned to Don Bosco Higher Secondary School in Irinjalakuda, where he completed his high school education in 2011. During his time at Don Bosco, Akhil not only excelled academically but also actively participated in various extracurricular activities, further nurturing his creative talents and laying the groundwork for his future career in filmmaking.
In 2011, Akhil pursued higher education in 3D Animation and VFX at ICAT Design & Media College in Bommanahalli, Bangalore. Over the course of four years, from 2011 to 2015, he immersed himself in the technical and artistic aspects of animation and visual effects. Despite his achievements in this field, his growing passion for storytelling and filmmaking soon became the primary focus of his ambitions.
Determined to refine his skills and knowledge in filmmaking, Akhil enrolled at Annapurna College of Film and Media in Hyderabad, Telangana, in 2016 which was affiliated with Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University. He pursued a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Film + Media, a comprehensive program that provided him with a solid grounding in various aspects of filmmaking, including directing, screenwriting, cinematography, and editing. During his time at Annapurna College, Akhil had the opportunity to work on numerous projects, honing his craft and gaining valuable experience in the cinematic arts. He successfully completed his degree in 2020, emerging as a well-rounded filmmaker ready to make his mark in the industry.
Career
[edit]Akhil has directed several acclaimed short films that have been recognized at film festivals worldwide. His notable works include Blue Lemon (2020)[2], Nuttah - The Unborn Heart] (2020), Devour (2020)[3], Collab House (2018), Perhaps (2018), and Clown Canvas (2017). These films have been praised for their compelling narratives and directorial excellence under his own banner Gloomoon Pictures Productions
Akhil has followed his filmmaking passion by working as a Director's Assistant under Honudi Productions and Turtle Vine Productions in 2020-2021. In 2021, he moved to Mumbai to work as a Director's Assistant under the banner of Roy Kapur Films for the feature film Woh Ladki Hai Kahaan, directed by Arshad Syed, which is yet to be released. In 2023, he continued his journey as a Director's Assistant with Excel Media & Entertainment in Mumbai.
On June 18, 2023, Akhil Sachi completed a short course in content writing with Terribly Tiny Tales," led by Anuj Gosalia and his team.
Akhil is preparing for his debut as a feature film director in the Malayalam film industry. Given his impressive track record with short films, there is significant anticipation surrounding this new project.
