Dr. Asode Ananthram Shetty (born 16 June 1955) is an Indian orthopaedic surgeon, scientist, and academic, widely known as A. A. Shetty in academics. He is noted for his work in regenerative medicine and the application of stem cell research in orthopaedics.
Biography
[edit]Prof. Shetty was born on 16 June 1955 in Asodu, Kundapur, India. He completed his postgraduate training at Guy's Hospital, King's College London, and St. Thomas’s School of Medicine, London. He holds fellowships including FRCS and FACS.
Prof. Shetty resides in Kent, UK, with his wife and daughter, a classical musician and researcher.
Career
[edit]Contributions and Research
[edit]Prof. Shetty's research focuses on stem cell technology for cartilage and bone regeneration. He co-developed the Autologous Collagen-Induced Chondrogenesis (ACIC: Shetty–Kim technique), a single-stage arthroscopic cartilage repair technique.[1]
He has collaborated with research teams in South Korea, Japan, and India to advance regenerative medicine and stem cell therapy.

- Emeritus Professor of Orthopaedics and Stem Cell Research, Canterbury Christ Church University, UK.
- Adjunct Professor, KMC Manipal, India.
Teaching and duty
[edit]Prof. Shetty played a key role in establishing the postgraduate surgical program at Canterbury Christ Church University. His work contributed to the university gaining approval for an undergraduate medical school.[2]
Prof. Shetty also serves as Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Kent and Public Governor of Medway Maritime Hospital.[3]
Philanthropy
[edit]Prof. Shetty is involved in charity projects, supporting educational institutions and providing free surgeries in underserved regions. He received the “Human Achievers Foundation Award” for his contributions.[4]
