The 2024 Edo State gubernatorial election is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 21 September 2024, to elect the governor of Edo State.[1] The incumbent PDP governor, Godwin Obaseki, is ineligible to contest for re-election, having already served two terms as allowed by the constitution of Nigeria.[2]

Primaries

[edit]A total of 10 candidates were cleared to contest in the PDP primary by the party’s screening committee. Prominent names cleared include: Asue Ighodalo; lawyer and businessman, Philip Shaibu; Deputy Governor of Edo State and Omosede Igbinedion; former House of Representatives member for Ovia Federal Constituency (2015-2019). Other names cleared include: Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, Felix Akhabue, Anslem Ojezua, Arthur Esene, Martin Uhomoibhi, Umoru Hadizat and Osaro Onaiwu.[3] The primary took place on 22 February 2024 with Asue Ighodalo being declared the winner.[4]
