History

[edit]

The Games held coinciding the 1953 Summer Deaflympics. This was the last time that the Winter and Summer Games coincided in the same year.

Only 6 Nations participated at the inaugural Winter Deaflympics including the host nation Norway. The other nations were Austria, Finland, Germany, Sweden and Yugoslavia. Alpine Skiing, Cross-Country Skiing and Ski jumping were the only sports being introduced at the competition.

This was the first time that women were allowed to participate at the inaugural Winter Deaflympics.
