The Copa de la Liga Peruana (English: Peruvian League Cup) will be a knockout football cup competition organized by the Peruvian Football Federation. The tournament will be played between teams of the Liga 1 and Liga 2. It will be Peru's new domestic cup competition and will have its first season in 2025.[1] The winners will qualify for the following year's Copa Sudamericana.
In Peru there has never been an official domestic cup competition. Multiple attempts were made but none were successful, with many competitions being made every few years and lasting only a couple seasons. The Torneo del Inca and Copa Bicentenario were the two predecessors of the Copa de la Liga Peruana but were dissolved after numerous cancellations by the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF).[2]
In 2024, the FPF announced that in 2025 there will be a new cup competition in Peru, after the Copa Bicentenario, which was planned to be the new domestic cup competition, was not played in three years. The competition will be played with the teams of the Primera (Liga 1) and Segunda División (Liga 2), with the possible addition of the newly created Tercera División (Liga 3).[1] It will have a similar format to the Copa Argentina, being a knock-out round tournament and acting as an additional qualifier for the Copa Sudamericana.[3] It will be played in between international FIFA dates. There is a possibility that the tournament will be connected with the Supercopa Peruana.
