The proposed merger with Category:Toponymy makes eminent sense. Although "toponymy" is an uncommon word (and fiendish to spell), it should be used for the combined category to emphasize that the only articles belonging in this category relate to naming practices, not to the names themselves. At present, many Wikipedia editors appear to be erroneously putting into Category:Place name those articles which merely state that a word is a place name. "Toponymy" would also be more suitable since it would properly lead to Category:Toponymists and the national toponymy pages.Tacitus20:21, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose, for what the user who proposed this merger said, that users list mere place names, and not naming practices under Cat:Place names, as they should. There needs to be two separate cats, one for listing mere names (ie. place names) and the other for naming practices (ie. toponymy) Mayumashu (talk) 04:34, 28 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
