This question crops up every now and again. The short answer is that it can be spelt either way, both in British and American English. Here are some examples of it being used as one word.
There are, of course, a number of sources that display it spelt as two words. Dictionaries also vary. There seems to be no particular pattern. If you find one then that would be great as it would be nice to put this one to bed once and for all! --Vince16:10, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
