Name and purpose of the cat[edit]

[discussion below moved from Portal:Ukraine/New article announcements —MZ]

User:Mag2k started Category:Castles in the Ukraine and Category:Castles in Ukraine. IMHO the former should be deleted and the latter renamed Fortresses in Ukraine. --Ghirla | talk 17:10, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Partly support. We shouldn't eliminate the castles word: there are many castles in Western UA. "Castles and fortresses"? Ukrained 20:41, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Category:Castles in Ukraine fits with others at Category:Castles by country, and fortresses is close enough to be a synonym for the purposes of this category. There is also a parent subject Category:Fortification. Michael Z. 2006-01-17 21:14 Z
I am with Michael on this one. I agree that the "the" article should be removed, however the name of the category should be left as "Castles in Ukraine" since it fits well with other categories, particularly "Castles by country". --Berkut 07:02, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've deleted Category:Castles in the Ukraine, since it was empty and obviously poorly named. Michael Z. 2006-01-18 08:07 Z

Just discovered a cousin Category:Forts by country. Michael Z. 2006-01-18 08:26 Z

OK, if you think that Ostrog and Khotin may be classified as castles, I will start Category:Castles in Russia later today and list the Moscow Kremlin there. --Ghirla | talk 10:24, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If the previous editor meant that buildings/compounds should be put in the category, and not whole cities, than he's right.
However, I can't see why Kremlin is not a castle. To the best of my knowledge, it wasn't a fortified city, but a castle of Knyaz' (like Wawel in Krakow). Ukrained 21:03, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
