This category is stated to be limited to "citizens of Brazil". I have just added José Maurício Nunes Garcia (1767-1830) on the premise that he was still alive at the time of independence in 1822, and the first constitution in 1824, and so acquired Brazilian nationality. However, what would be the position of people of African heritage living in Brazil who died before there was a Brazilian nationality? Do they belong in this category? Category:Portuguese people of African descent doesn't really seem appropriate. Davidships (talk) 14:03, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
