The technological singularity—or simply the singularity—is a hypothetical future point in time at which technological growth becomes uncontrollable and irreversible, resulting in unforeseeable consequences for human civilization. Examples of the singularity in science fiction abound, usually associated with the growth of artificial intelligence. The negative aspect of the singularity is related the trope of AI takeover, but positive and utopian scenarios also exist.
