Category:New Zealand jurists

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A jurist is a professional who studies, develops, applies or otherwise deals with the law. The term is widely used in the United States, but in the United Kingdom and many Commonwealth countries it has only historical and specialist usage. In these countries, members of the general public are largely unaware of the term and are liable to confuse it with juror. There is no alternative word for jurist in the Commonwealth. The term "legal professionals" may be used for convenience, but it is not an everyday term. Like "jurist", the term has the advantage that it includes magistrates, justices of the peace, etc. as well as judges in the one category.
