Artin is both a surname and a given name. In the Armenian-speaking world, it is an abbreviation of the given name Harutyun (given name) meaning resurrection.

Meaning of Artin: Name Artin in the Persian origin, means Righteous, Pure or Holy (also a name of a Median king) even though no valid sources have been provided for this claim. In the Persian-Armenian world, it is a variation of the given name. It has also been claimed to be an old Median name meaning pure and virtuous coming from the name of the Median king of Persia Phraortes (Fravartiš).[citation needed].
