The 2026 Indian Premier League, also known as IPL 19,, will be the 19th edition of the Indian Premier League. The tournament is expected to feature ten teams competing in 84 matches from 15 March to 31 May 2026.[1]
Background
[edit]According to ESPNcricinfo, the dates of the tournament window for the three seasons between 2025 and 2027 were sent to franchises ahead of the 2025 auction.[2] In November 2024, the tentative dates for the next three seasons were announced with the 2026 edition set to take place from 15 March to 31 May.[3]
Format
[edit]Each team is expected to play twice against the teams in their group and the team in the same row in the other group, and once against the remaining four teams in the other group. The top four teams based on the most aggregated points or net run rate are expected to qualify for the playoffs after the league stage is completed.[4]
