This is a 2024 timeline of events in the Somali Civil War (2009–present).

January

  • 5 January – Atleast 10 Al-Shabaab militants were killed in an airstrike in Beerxaani area northwest of Kismayo.[1]
  • 11 January – Somaliland forces with the help of local militia captured the Jiidali town west of Erigaabo.[2]
  • 15 January – Several ISIS fighters were killed and five were captured including foreign fighters in an offensive by Puntland Security Forces in Cal Miskaad mountains in the Bari region. The operation also lead to the destruction of 8 militants bases and shot down 9 explosive drones targeting the Security forces.[3]
  • 21 January – 13 soldiers of the Puntland Security Forces were killed in an roadside bomb explosion during an counter-terrorism operation in Habley area, Bari region.[4]
  • 23 January – Three Al-Shabaab militants were killed and Six wounded in an operation carried out by Somali National Army in Ceelgaras village, Galgaduud region.[5]
  • 24 January – The Puntland Security Forces liberated the towns of Turmasaale and Janno-Jiifta from ISIS militants.[6]
  • 25 January – An offensive carried out by Puntland Security Forces captured a major militant base and killed 13 ISIS militants in Cal Miskaad mountains in the Bari region. Since the start of the offensive the security forces have destroyed or captured more than 100 bases and liberated 260km of territory.[7]
  • 28 January – Somali National Army with support from local forces captured Beera Yabaal area in the Hiiraan region from Al-Shabaab militants.[8]
  • 31 January:
    • The Somali National Army in an operation with support from local forces killed 40 Al-Shabaab militants in Hiraan region.The Army also intensified operations in Al-Shabaab strongholds in Wargolole, Hooyaley, and Abagbeday, areas located north of Hudur district with aim of a major offensive.[9]
    • President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre narrowly escaped after security forces shot down one of two drones hovering over Villa Somalia.[10]

February

  • 1 February – The Somali National Army with support from local forces liberated Jicibow area in the Hiiraan region.[11]
  • 2 February:
    • An US airstrike killed many ISIS militants including Senior leaders in Golis mountains, Puntland.[12]
    • At least 50 combatants are killed after fighting between Al-Shabaab and the Somali National Army along with Ma'awisley militias. The clashes happened in the Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle regions of Hirshabelle state.[13]
  • 3 February – Two Al-Shabaab militants were killed and two captured when Security Forces foiled an attack in Kismayo.[14]
  • 4 February – Atleast 15 foreign ISIS militants were killed in an airstrike in Tog-Jaceel mountaneous regions, Puntland.[15]
  • 6 February – Somali National Army liberated the villages of villages of Halgan and Buuloburd Hiraan region from Al-Shabaab militants.[16]
