Could you please explain why you insist on changing "(Republic of Ireland)" to "(Ireland)" in the above article? As if to 'educate', you have also made the Wikilink point to Names of the Irish state. To quote from that very article:
"The Republic of Ireland is generally used in any context in which it is necessary to distinguish between the state and the island of Ireland as a whole."

Definitely broad gauge (5-ft 3-in) The 1906 map shows the W&T as broad gauge. Only the narrow gauges are defined in the list, all others are assumed to be broad gauge by default. Therefore no need to include the W&T's gauge in list. Take a look at Image:Train at Bath Street.JPG which looks broad gauge to me. Dun Laoghaire railway station
[edit]Hi. If you have a chance, can you find a source for the opening of the new station building at Dun Laoghaire railway station?
I went with the mid-1840's, per the source I was working from, but you went with 1854, which actually I think is right, but I can't find a source. (One of these things: I know I saw something recently that said the 1850's rather than 1840's, but I don't know where :O) )

- Yup. It has the detail of the building of the station being delayed for two decades after it was designed, which is (AFAIK) right. Actually I think the architect, John Skipton Mulvany, might be overdue for an article himself. Even dealing with railway stations, apart from a couple of stations on that line, he designed Galway railway station, Sligo railway station and of course Broadstone amongst others. Not bad going. Bray-Enniskerry Railway
[edit]Hi Mr Diesel, Spotted this great pic - I've often seen that "tunnel" and wondered what it was. Never guessed it was part of a railway. Where did the railway run? - It wasn't until I read a review of: "THE BRAY AND ENNISKERRY RAILWAY, Liam Clare, Nonsuch Publishing, 73 Lower Leeson Street, Dublin 2. ISBN 978 184588 5939" that I realised what the bridge was for.
Apparently it was built to carry the failed 19th century proposed Bray-Enniskerry Rly over Dublin Corporation's Vartry watermain directly opposite the ornate bridge carrying the watermain over the Cookstown River. The watermain runs from left to right, i.e. under the bridge & road & over the river, you can still see the old Corpo logo on the side of the pipe.
According to the author, the raised bank on the LHS of picture is the railway embankment, partly lost to road widening. Had a look at this bit myself, but couldn't see any remains.
He also claims, I think, that the reason the area around the Honda garage at the N11 end is so high above N11 level was to accomodate a tunnel. Suckindiesel (talk) 16:15, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

- I see you've returned to your old favourite, the Dublin tram system. Of course, the Brewery system differs in being industrial rather than public tramsport, but does merit inclusion. See [1] for list of engines. The broadgauge wasn't confined to the brewery premises either, it went up the road at the side of Heuston Station and turned into the goods yard through a wide gate, which still exists. This section with train actually features in an old 1965 Fu Manchu movie. I'm certain that I've seen a website devoted to the topic, which contained many official photos from the Guinness archive, but couldn't locate it tonight. There is also a chapter devoted to it in a Guinness publication of a few years ago, I'll try to borrow a copy of this book. Suckindiesel (talk) 00:50, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

- Sorry, misunderstood, thought you were objecting to the use of word "kilo", which I changed to "thousand". Re claim of "SI Notation", don't know if it is, its not my edit. However, this is a longstanding BS 1852 recommendation. Image of Nine Arches Viaduct

Your image of the the nine arches viaduct with luas crossing is a great shot (http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/File:Bridge,_Nine_Arches.jpg).
I would really like to use this image in a heritage brochure publication which is due to go to press this monday (11.10.10) to demonstrate effectively the re-use/regeneration of an historic site and illustrate integration of past and present.
Just wondering firstly if you might be able to forward me a higher resolution copy of this image and secondly I would very much like to acknowledge your full name in the acknowledgements. Could you let me know your name for the credits and if you would like a copy of the finalised brochure let me know.

Hi Suckindiesel, a non-free media use rationale is not required for this file as it is PD (in the United States due to its early publication and also in Ireland as the artist died more than 70 years ago). Martello towers
[edit]Did you get a copy of The Martello Towers of Dublin from which you are making improvements to the Martello tower listings for Ireland? If so you should really be using inline citation templates as sources for the details added. I might ask my son to get me one for Christmas as I am in the US now and will be in France later on so won't have a chance to buy it until next year sometime. Are you really sure there is no tower on Lambay Island? I always thought there was one there. The last time I was close to it I was puking my guts up sailing out from Howth on a very stormy Saturday about 30 years ago during the Howth Regatta.

- Sorry for delay replying. I've been serving my time at Mountjoy. I will confess I had briefly thought Cork Albert
StreetQuay before asking this question; but I would have perhaps expected some rolling stock behind the platform if that was the case. I don't think any dublin terminus I can think of. I dont think Bray or Howth either. I had surmised Waterford. Your suggestion of the the G1 I dismissed as that was a 2-4-0T and this is a 4-4-0T. Checking 4-4-0T the Cork and Bandon was a possible. There are some livery simularities with The picture of No. 7 on P.25 (the only loco "constructed" at Rocksavage shows livery simularities with our engine, but destinct detail differences. Steam locomotives of Ireland shows CB&SCR nos. 3, 9, 10, 18 as 4-4-0T's (some later converted to 4-4-2) ... and Redrose and I briefly touched that subject recent. My CB&SCR book is currently mislaid and I have located a photo of those locos, at least yet. I'm also look at if the CB&PR and noted the map at - interruption - [5] p.13 seems a snap? Just noticed a an Innisfallen at P.26 the map I was looking for is on [6]] P.3that shows a siding snaking toward the CB&PR which is a subject of my discussion currently. Back to Subject ... (sorry for getting excited but I need to note references before I lose them) ... if the station is Cork Albert the engine would be departing away from Dublin completely destroying the associated commentary and has the photograph been touched up a little? Great for the Marys to bring up but its not their collection! Thankyou. One explanation (bit oturageous): Photographer tendered off of their liner form the USA moored off of Queenstown/Cobh and told mainline station for Dublin was near the Summerhill termius. Unfortunately the ship's tender could have taken them to Passage, then into Cork Albert Street. Compared to that Cork Albert Quay would have seemed a big station. This might have only worked 1892/1893. Of course they simply could have the victim of some misinformation craic. The suggestion to look at the loco. was really very helpful. - I'm not having the greatest of luck with that link ... my first move in orienteering was generally to move off the map and wonder why I was lost! The site is however providing information for the "Battle of Spencer Dock" as this seems to show "Royal Canal Docks" . (My attempts to share a link have sterted ended up p[ointing at Tuam ... the Rocky Road to Dublin via Mullingar and then on the Royal Canal). Back to the Albert Quay question: [8] seems a great match for the locomotive (albeit built to a 4-4-2T from 4-4-0T), and c:File:Cork, Albert Quay station; Cork, Bandon & South Coast Railway, 1948 (geograph 5307072).jpg seems a great match for the station shed at C:File:CBSCR 440T at Albert Quay 1890s irelandinpicture00fine Finetry p305.jpg. The general height of the hill in the background seems right. But the background behind the far platform seems "wrong" ... Yes the building looks right for one of the buildings, but I'm not convinced there were that many of them. And I'm expecting siding(s) beyond the far platform ... I wouldn't expect to see the tracks but I'd expect some evidence of something ... its just too clean! I am reasonably sure the image has been touched up to suit the publication of the book. - Maybe I'm loosing the plot here, but that Finetry shot shows three lines emerging from the station shed compared with the two lines of the 1948 shot. However, wasn't that line narrow gauge until 1902? which may explain how two roads replaced three roads. Does it look 3-ft in the older photo?
- If 3-ft, then there can't be many narrow gauge tank engines of that configuration.

- THE CB&SCR was Albert Quay station was always 5' 3". The Cork and Passage Railway )Albert Street) was the one that got narrowed about 1900. There was always 3 road at Cork Albert Quay as far as I am aware. The CB&SCR & C&PR while close were probably briefly connected circa 1870s (via a siding). The CMDR & CB&SCR had various most public dalliances of connection and divorce. Colm Creedon's collection has some more infomration: [9] & [10].. Actually [11] on approx P.12 seems to show a 2 road layput for Albert Quay introudced in the Diesel error. I think I'm sort of right but I do make bloopers and am not trying to confused you - mind you anything with cork railways probably would. I'll own up I've never been to Cork. - I've found one ref to a 4-4-0T of perhaps the correct era in Boocock's Loco Compendium, p43. The CB&SCR rebuilt a 4-4-0T supplied by Dubs in 1893 into a 4-6-0T, the first of the class B4 (GSR '463') Cab design, anyway, looks very similar. Suckindiesel (talk) 23:52, 7 September 2021 (UTC)
- Getting my Alberts mixed up, I'm afraid. On looking at that 1899 map again [[12]] I see that Albert Quay had three lines running into the terminus building with four coal sheds alongside the terminus. The first two were large, the third was smaller and the fourth was out of shot in your photo. Seems a good match to me. Those coal sheds could have easily been gone before 1948.
- Would also tie in with that Boocock ref which would have been a one-off and unclassified, A rare beast.
