[edit]Picture upload request
[edit]Hi there. I found this picture, Image:Bourj Hammoud01.jpg, and I learnt that you posted it for Wikipedia. I am yet to create Arabic and Simple English articles for Bourj Hammoud, so I wish to urgently ask if you could make the picture "common" - or available at all time. You can do that by uploading it to this website:
But, of course, you'd need to obtain a Wikimedia.org account. Thanks a lot. - Omar 180 12:17, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Aram06.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Aram06.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ytfin 23:29, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Zvartnots Cathedral, and it appears to be very similar to another wikipedia page: Zvartnots. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case.
This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 10:36, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

You had participated back in February in this CfD regarding the Category:Documentaries alleging war crimes, which ended in no consensus. A new proposal has been made to eliminate this category and merge its contents to Category:War documentaries which is now going on at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2008 September 24#Category:Documentaries alleging war crimes. You are encouraged to reconsider the original CfD, revisit your opinion in that discussion and participate again in this latest CfD. Alansohn (talk) 20:19, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

RE: Energy in Armenia
[edit]Բարեւ Serouj, thanks for the links. It's a great model for Armenia to follow so long as we learn from their problems.
Too bad the Renewable Energy in Armenia site is down, would've been very useful and interesting to see what other steps Armenia is taking to become less dependent on outdated energy sources like gas and oil. I hope the Danes will release the information soon. In the meantime, I found this. I was actually pleasantly surprised myself to see that Armenia's got a wind farm, albeit a small one... the one which you snapped a picture of. And the geothermal plant is just great news as well. Hopefully, the sources are accurate. - Fedayee (talk) 18:55, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
Proposed deletion of Social issues in Armenia
[edit]A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Social issues in Armenia, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:
- Social issues in Armenia
All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. You are doing a "Sneaky vandalism"
[edit]Modification of the original source based on what you think is injection of POV. We go with what the source says. Removing the Kurdish Genocide, though listed in the original source, is a "Sneaky vandalism." --Ahmetsaatalti (talk) 01:01, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
What "original source" are you talking about with your proposed "Kurdish Genocide" that you claim occurred contemporaneously with the Armenian Genocide? I have yet to come across a reputable academic source which claims a Kurdish Genocide at the same time of the Armenian, Pontic Greek, and Assyrian genocides. If anything, there is evidence of Kurdish involvement in the massacres of the above peoples during the genocide. Your intra-wiki link to Kurdish Genocide on the Armenian Genocide page will be removed. Thanks. Serouj (talk) 03:00, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
- The last sentence of the first paragraph cites the article: Schaller, Dominik J. and Zimmerer, Jürgen (2008) 'Late Ottoman genocides: the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire and Young Turkish population and extermination policies – introduction', Journal of Genocide Research, 10:1, 7–14. This article references the first three genocides that is stated in the article which I guess you have not problem with. But the original text do not stop with the first three and continues with the one you reject. You are selecting what to include and what to reject from the article. This is "Sneaky vandalism." The evidence you are asking is in the article. --Ahmetsaatalti (talk) 03:08, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

պ, տ, կ in Armenian
[edit]Hi. I noticed you changed the pronunciation of these consonants in Eastern Armenian to ejectives. However, those are not ejectives but plain voiceless consonants, like Russian п, т, к. Hear this ejective here. I'm sure you've never heard an Armenian making that sound. At least not the ones speaking literary Eastern Armenian or Ararat valley dialect. Anyway, I'm going to change the pronunciations in Eastern Armenian and Armenian alphabet when I have time, just wanted to let you know. --Vahagn Petrosyan (talk) 20:24, 12 April 2009 (UTC)
Pronunciation of ռ in Western Armenian
[edit]Hey, another question. How do you pronounce ռ in Western Armenian? Is it really an alveolar tap? Then don't you distinguish between ր and ռ? Because in Eastern Armenian ր is an alveolar tap and ռ is an alveolar trill. --Vahagn Petrosyan (talk) 22:13, 12 April 2009 (UTC)
Bana Cathedral
[edit]Hi Serouj! That's an interesting subject. I think I will create it soon on wk:fr. Moreover, I will use Donabédian, who commented on the building. Sardur (talk) 23:16, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
- Donabédian has Banak has well. Sardur (talk) 07:06, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
Hello Serouj. I noticed your clash with an ip over the Bana cathedral article. While the anon was incorrect when eliminating the Armenian origin of the church, Bana’s Georgian renovators should also be mentioned. I don’t know whether your sources speak of its Georgian connections, but I can provide you with the sources, including those by Armenian authors, about how Bana was restored by the Georgian Bagratids from Arab devastation in the 9th century and then was a venue for coronation of a couple of Georgian monarchs. I think we can cooperate and improve the article. I’m also suggesting renaming the article back to Bana, for its being the most frequently used name in both Armenian and Georgian sources. Best, KoberTalk 18:53, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
Hi Serouj! Actually, Donabédian, while recognising the Armenian type of the cathedral, disagrees on its dating:
- "Rangée par quelques auteurs parmi les constructions du VIIe siècle, elle est en réalité précisément datée par un témoignage historique (chronique géorgienne du XIe siècle) du règne du prince Adrnérsé II (881-923) et rien n'autorise à mettre en doute cette datation."
- Patrick Donabédian, L'âge d'or de l'architecture arménienne, Parenthèses, Marseille, 2008, ISBN 978-2-86364-172-9, p. 199.
Sardur (talk) 05:46, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
Your thoughts are offensive, If I wanted something to change, I'd do so, without being anonymous! The only change I made to "Banak Cathedral" is the move to Bana Cathedral over redirect. That's all! I don't understand who gave you right to name the article “Banak”?! If you agree with Kober about restoration of the Cathedral, after which Armenians are unrelated to it, then it must be named Bana!--Rastrelli F (talk) 05:55, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

About template
[edit]I just feel it would better to combine the two, because the 'History of the Armenian Language' can only go as far as literally describing the history of the Armenian language. By combining the two, people can not only find the history of the language, but also links to other articles describing grammar, orthography, etc. Consider it, and just a personal note, I think a template like the one I created is larger and more eye-catching. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Montyofarabia (talk • contribs) 06:38, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

As you can check, radio station Radio Free Europe has already taken out the offending words addressed to Gagik Tsarukyan. Even more, newspaper “Haykakan Zhamanak”(from which Radio Free Europe radio station took the source and translated the information into English) also has taken out these offending words from its archive text(You can check it easily, the text is in Armenian). So after this I think you should delete the nickname addressed to Gagik Tsarukyan. (Otherwise I can do it myself) Thank You for attention.
- Hey there. I've provided an alternative link as well as the quote from the article. I don't see what your problem with the nickname is, as it is a widely used nickname and it is reasonable to have it in this article. Serouj (talk) 16:16, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
- Hey, So you should distinguish that one thing is nickname, another thing is the OFFENDING nickname. According to Wikipedia rules, you cant use offending, and also non-formal words. The nickname you mantioned is not only Non-formal word, but also an offending one.Lenagroup (talk) 06:28, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
- Let's understand the situation dear Serouj. One thing is nickname(Margaret Thetcher-iron lady) BUT another thing is offending nickname with slang words. Even more, ArmeniaNow media(the one to that Serouj posted the link) already edited the article. What I want to tell, is that I think all self-respectful Armenian medias would edit this horrible slang addressed to Gagik Tsarukyan if they know that it will serve as link to Wikipedia. The name Ararat is not only explained on the internet. Armenians have books and on Armenian TV channels, they explain the root "AR-AR" , with our other words AR-AR-ICH, AR-AR-ATZ, AR-AR-OGH, AR-AR-EL , etc etc. You do know Armenian correct? Its in our daily language, we dont notice we say "ayd banen "ARAR", yes "ARAM", ed banen "ARA" you see? Monlonet (talk) 20:05, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
Church templates
[edit]The Armenian church templates are getting too big. There are so many Armenian churches and structures in the countries listed that they could each receive a template (with both historical/contemporary included). Or perhaps they can be divided by region (ex. historical Armenian churches in Europe). TA-ME (talk) 08:22, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, we need to think of something. See the templates talk page. We can first divide into three categories: Middle Ages, Early Modern, and Modern. We might be able to do even better: Antiquity (upto 500 AD), Early Middle Ages (500 to 1000), High Middle Ages (1000 to 1300), Late Middle Ages (1300 to 1500), Early modern (1500 to 1800), and Modern (1800 to present). This should significantly reduce the list in each (although if a church was renovated later on, it should appear in the corresponding template again...) Serouj (talk) 08:29, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Certain people have changed [3] the duduk page and put Turkish origins, and even removed other visual examples of Gasparyan's links above. Also, the right side where it said "Traditional Armenian Instrument" is removed and added Turkish info. Is there anyway you can help out? They have locked the page. 76.232.252.185 (talk) 17:44, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
Can you help out on the Duduk page? They keep reverting Eupator and my edits back to what it was before. They remove the Armenian info and put Turkish. Please help out here. Everybody knows, even non-Armenians that Duduk is Armenian. Specially from the 2000 movie Gladiator by Gasparyan. Monlonet (talk) 18:26, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
Why arent you helping with the Duduk page? Putting Turkish origins isnt vandalism? They are even removing the template of Armenian Duduk. Monlonet (talk) 16:26, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

- There aren't many in Armenia proper, since Armenia proper didn't have a large Muslim population since at least 100 years. There aren't any ancient mosques in Armenia, either, although you can find some preserved funerary monuments. Furthermore, just like urban Armenian churches were destroyed during Soviet times, so, too, probably were some mosques destroyed by the Soviets. Many of the Armenian churches in both Turkey and in Armenia date from the 4th-8th centuries, long before any Muslims invaded the Armenian plateau. The large number of Armenian churches in Istanbul is the evidence of a thriving Western Armenian community (Constantinople was the cultural center of the Western Armenian world; you can similarly find over 32 Armenian churches in Tbilisi, Georgia, which was the cultural center of the Eastern Armenian community). In contrast, Yerevan has always been a small town until the 1920s when it became the capital city of Armenia. Therefore, it's no surprise that there are both few Armenian churches and few mosques in the city. Many of the churches in Yerevan were built after the fall of the Soviet Union. Hope that clarifies things a bit. Serouj (talk) 18:26, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi Serouj. I want to discuss the name of this church. In Russian sources this church is called "Ванкский собор" (Vank Cathedral), in Armenian sources its called "Թիֆլիսի հայոց վանք" (The Armenian Catherdal of Tiflis). But I never founded something like Church of the Holy Mother of God of the Mens Monastery. --Hovik95 (talk) 14:08, 13 February 2010 (UTC)

- Because it's the church of the monastery (i.e. the monastery's church). Again, see the reference. It's a popular reference book of Armenian art. Serouj (talk) 00:08, 14 February 2010 (UTC)

The article Jean-Michel Thierry has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- I cannot find any sources that directly address this author (only the book he co-wrote). I find this subject of this article to not meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. LonelyBeacon (talk) 02:53, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

[edit]The information that you have posted in that article is totally wrong. It contains information leading illegal land claiming of one country to another. I sincerely ask you not to write down falsified armenian names on Azerbaijan-related articles. As far as I know, such actions are prohibited in Wikipedia. If you continue to do vandalism in Azerbaijan-related articles, I will have no option but to complain about your activities to the main administration of Wikipedia. Regards, User:Verman1
- You're very comic Verman1. Fortunately, for Wikipedia, the obscure Azeri websites that you cite do not meet Wikipedia's standard as sources; they outright try to rewrite the history of the region by claiming the whole area as "Caucasian Albania" when in fact Caucasian Albani lied not in the Armenian Highland, but in the flatlands of what is now Azerbaijan, east of the Kura River. The mountainous area has always been Armenia... Check your facts and don't believe the propaganda of your own country and government. Serouj (talk) 08:07, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

- Go ahead. Complain. Let's see how far you can go before you realize that what you're claiming has no basis in reality. Serouj (talk) 08:08, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
- Ok don't worry about that. I will do my promise.
For your informaton, Caucasian Albania as a state was extinct in 7th century, together with Armenia. But Caucasian Albanian church continued to operate actively until 19th century, when this church was forcibly annexed to Armenian Apostol Church. This was illegal annexation, it had no basis, as there was no link between Caucasian Albanian and Armenian churches. User:Verman1
- Mr. Verman, don't you think that your proposal to monopolize the Azerbaijan-related articles, is somehow ridiculous? Do you own the copyright of those articles?--Kevorkmail (talk) 13:59, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

[edit]Dear Serouj, how about to use this photo for the page? I think it is taken from a better angle.--Kevorkmail (talk) 13:59, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
Hello Serouj. I thunk you may be interested that some georgian ultra nationalists are trying to show that Banak cathedral, and not Bana is georgian, which is a well known Armenian church. They're edit waring with everyone, could you look? Thanks! P.S. They're also trying to remove The template Armenian churches.--91.204.190.23 (talk) 16:39, 29 August 2011 (UTC)

Armenian Pantheon of Tbilisi
[edit]Kober has just scattergunned this article with numerous citation required and page numbers required tags, probably as a prelude to deleting the content. I don't have access to "The State Policy of Georgia and the Monuments of Armenian Culture" book so I was wondering if you did. Meowy 11:46, 20 August 2012 (UTC)
- Found a PDF copy of the Armenian-language edition here. http://raa.am/BOOK_2/Girqamboxg.pdf Meowy 18:41, 20 August 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply on my talk page. For that article, all that is really needed just now is the page numbers in the book that deal with the cemetery. I can't read Armenian so don't know where in the book this content is (except for the photo descriptions at the end which are in English). Kober's tags are asking for a page reference for each thing, but I think all that is needed is to have a single reference with the range of page numbers in the book. I'm also wondering if this (a source which was deleted by Kober) is taken from a book rather than written by the anonymous site owner: http://pandukht.livejournal.com/8959.html. There are actually another 13 or so parts to it, spread out over several months of posts on that site. In the comments part of it someone asked what the source was, what its copyright status was - but the site owner did not answer (which suggests it is not his own work). Hey, Serouj. I've been doing some major editing on the above-linked article, and I thought I'd get the primary contributor's opinion on my edits. Would you mind telling me what you think of my revisions? Pokajanje|Talk 17:19, 16 October 2012 (UTC)

Armenian Alphabet edit
[edit]I wanted to make an edit to the Armenian alphabet Wiki page, but I really am not enough of an authority to do it with confidence. This is what I think may be wrong: in the section 'The Alphabet', the entry for Ղ ղ has the IPA symbol /ɫ/ listed for its Classical Armenian pronunciation. From the other references I have seen (including the Armenian Orthography Wiki entry), the pronunciation should be the same for Classical, Western, and Eastern Armenian, namely: /ʁ/. Actually, I couldn't even find ɫ listed as a symbol in the IPA so I'm not sure where that came from. If this is indeed a mistake, it would be great if you could fix it. Or just let me know and I will do it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hagopi1611 (talk • contribs) 12:11, 20 July 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Hagop, no, with regard to the letter Ղ there is no mistake. In Classical Armenian, the letter was pronounced similar to L. (e.g. Jerusalem -> Yerusalem --> Երուսաղէմ) Thanks for double-checking before making an edit. Best wishes, Serouj (talk) 09:57, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Serouj, Thanks for your reply! In that case, there may need to be a CA/EA/WA distinction added to the ղ entry on http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Traditional_Armenian_orthography. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hagopi1611 (talk • contribs) 10:40, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
Armenian help needed
[edit]Hello Serouj, I'm contacting you because we need some Armenian translators to help with the deployment of the new VisualEditor on hy.wikipedia. There are help pages, user guides, and description pages that need translating, as well as the interface itself. The translating work is going on over on MediaWiki: Translation Central. I also need assistance with a personal message for the Armenian Wikipedians. If you are able to help in any way, either reply here, or head over to TranslationCentral. Hrazdan Hydro Power Plant
[edit]Hi, Serouj. Back in 2008, you redirected Razdan Hydro Power Plant to Atarbekyan Hydro Power Plant. I wonder if the correct name should be Hrazdan Hydro Power Plant. There are number of articles in Internet about Hrazdan Hydro Power Plant; however, I cant find any sources in English about the Atarbekyan Hydro Power Plant, other than wiki or its derivatives. Could you please clarify this? The same applies to redirecting the Argel Hydro Power Plant to the Gyumush Hydroelectric Power Station. It seems that in English the name Argel is more common than Gyumush. Beagel (talk) 17:13, 13 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Beagel, Hrazdan and Argel refer to the closest cities or towns to the said power plants. It may be that the other names (Atarbekyan and Gyumush) were more prominent during Soviet times, and since then the city / town names have taken precedent. Serouj (talk) 10:45, 30 December 2015 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Hadrut Province
[edit]Hello Serouj,
I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Hadrut Province for deletion, because it appears to duplicate an existing Wikipedia article, Hadrut Region.
If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.
You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.
