Requesting a work review for Bushido § Meiji-Showa (1868-1945)

[edit]

Greetings fellow copy editors,

I have completed a copy edit of the Meiji-Showa (1868–1945) section of the Bushido article which was requested for copy editing. I am a little out of practice, and I was hoping someone with more experience might review my work and provide constructive criticism. Thank you! — JarmihiGOCE (talk) 03:30, 17 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Looks fine to me. You did a fair amount of trimming, most of which was the result of your more concise summarization without losing meaning. However, this edit, where you seemed to completely set aside two paragraphs ("If, during the Middle Ages..." and "The victory of Japan over China...") could have used an edit summary that told why. I'm impressed with the care you took in how "bushido" was to be spelled. The article's lead isn't particularly consistent on the matter, having it rendered three different ways, without apparent rationale. Dhtwiki (talk) 11:54, 17 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I want to thank you so much for taking the time to look at my work. I appreciate your help! For those two paragraphs you mentioned, I tried to paraphrase them in a new paragraph ("Bushido regained popularity..."). I didn't think the analogy letters:Confucianism::combat:Japanese people was useful or relevant in this location of the article; and it seems inappropriately reductive of both Confucianism and Japanese people; and the source is in French, old and not digitized; and I wonder if such an analogy made by a European in 1902 would be colored by imperialistic ideas (in other words, saying the Japanese people are combative by definition smacks of racism); so I removed the whole content of the "If, during the Middle Ages" part of the first paragraph you discussed. May I request a review please?

[edit]

Hello everyone,

I have just had a go at my first copy edit on F.C. Chanthabouly, and was wondering if anyone would like to give it a look over and offer any feedback please? Thank you very much! JesterSocks (talk) 21:42, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your help, JesterSocks. You've only made a few changes to the article, so I don't have much to comment on. Two things, though: please remove the {{GOCEinuse}} tag when you finish an editing session (leaving it on seems to bug other editors ), and if only a section – rather than an entire article – is tagged for copyediting, that's all you have to do. I don't bother with the GOCEinuse tag, and remove copyedit tags before I begin (with an appropriate note in the edit summary). Have fun and all the best, Miniapolis 13:43, 21 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for these pointers, Miniapolis. I will keep on top of the tagging better in future copy edits. I'm having a good time so far. Best wishes, JesterSocks (talk) 09:45, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
