Responding to 2025 wildfires

[edit]

A number of folks related to Wikimedia LA have started to work on topics and articles related to the recent fires. I thought I'd point out a few here in case folks want to help:

Feel free to highlight more. @JSFarman, Ser Amantio di Nicolao, Penny Richards, and Jengod: - Fuzheado | Talk 14:48, 14 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I am going to start on articles for Pasadena Humane Society and Watch Duty. (I can't believe there isn't already an article.)
Thank you Andrew! JSFarman (talk) 02:49, 15 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, great idea. If you don't mind, I started it here: Draft:Watch Duty. Edit away! - Fuzheado | Talk 14:18, 15 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Anyone able to get a picture of G-Son studios in Atwater village?

[edit]

Looking for a photo or two to accompany the article about the Beastie Boys legendary studios, G-Son, but I can’t find anything that’s free to use/CC licensed. FOARP (talk) 01:13, 30 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal to deprecate Incorporated and Unincorporated area static maps

[edit]

Many of the Incorporated and Unincorporated area static maps like File:San Diego County California Incorporated and Unincorporated areas San Diego Highlighted.svg were originally uploaded in 2007, and may not reflect the current borders as of now in 2025. I therefore propose that these static maps be deprecated in favor of using Template:Maplink and the like, and have those templates automatically import the border data from OpenStreetMap and other sources. In fact, some articles like San Jose, California, Sacramento, California, and Long Beach, California have already been converted. It'll be much easier than attempting to redo these thousands of staitc maps manually. Zzyzx11 (talk) 20:35, 2 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
