There are a lot of things that are used as references now, but contain a lot of poorly sourced information. I would like to remove many of them from the articles, but I don't want the information lost to time, as they are useful sources for some things. Low emission buses in NYC

@Turini2, I could probably help out a bit. There is a lot that can be written about hybrid/battery-electric buses in NYC; the article MTA Regional Bus Operations bus fleet has some info on it, but it's missing a lot of other details.

R179s on the M

I have noticed that both articles along with many NYCS templates have been edited to say they are running on that service. While I have seen YouTube videos and posts from railfans and transit workers on forums showing that, I know there are not reliable sources, so is there a good source that states they have been assigned to that route. 2603:7000:26F0:68D0:CDA8:4B6D:676F:5E51 (talk) 19:44, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I would wait for the next ERA Bulletin to be released that would mention the car assignments reflecting R179s on the E, F and M lines. Time periods

I have been debating in my head lately wondering if it is best that we move forward from noting when certain routes operate "all times" or when stations are served by a certain route at "all times". For example, what I was thinking of changing the lead paragraph for the 1 article to this:

The 1 operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, making all stops between Van Cortlandt Park–242nd Street in Riverdale, Bronx and South Ferry in Lower Manhattan.

or:

The 1 operates 24-hour service between Van Cortlandt Park–242nd Street in Riverdale, Bronx and South Ferry in Lower Manhattan, making all stops along its entire route.

For certain lines which have varying service patterns, I was thinking something along these lines (just an example):

The 5 operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, although service patterns vary during the time of day. Weekday service between 6:00 AM and 9:00 PM operates between Eastchester - Dyre Avenue, The Bronx and Flatbush Avenue in Flatbush, Brooklyn. Weekday evening and weekend daytime service operates between Dyre Avenue and Bowling Green. Overnight shuttle service operates between Dyre Avenue and East 180th Street in the Bronx.

I personally feel that describing a service pattern by using time of day and hour intervals is clearer, more concise, and easy to understand. No other transit systems' articles use "all times" to specify if a route operates around the clock service, should we start to move away from that as well? You raise a good point that "all times" could be ambiguous. I would just say "operates 24 hours a day" for routes that have the same service pattern 24/7. (If it were only 24 hours a day on weekdays, or only 24 hours a day on weekends, I would say that instead.)
For service patterns currently described as "weekdays only", I'd change that to "weekdays during the day". Listing the exact times is more precise but might also go into WP:NOTTIMETABLE territory. – Epicgenius (talk) 00:03, 18 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It may be a good opportunity to shy away from the vague "late nights" type phrasing and maybe put in more accurate times, which we can get from the schedules. Some trains seem like to switch schedules later than some other ones. or, if we go the other way, something more vague? Tduk (talk) 02:49, 18 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I have made all the edits to all of the subway articles in the lead paragraphs. I updated the service legend as well to specify when a route stops at a station, changing ‘stops all times’ to ‘stops 24 hours a day’, from ‘stops all times except late nights’ to ‘stops every day during daytime hours only’, and ‘stops late nights only’ to ‘stops every day during overnight hours only’, as examples. —LRG5784 (talk · contribs · email) 18:24, 18 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
