Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Schools

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Schools. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Schools|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Schools. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.

Fails WP:GNG, like other school articles I have submitted, this article sounds like WP:PROMO, as the page sounds like it may have been written by the school themselves. ロドリゲス恭子 (talk) 19:13, 13 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

WP:NOTABLE and possibly WP:PROMO, the only source is promotionary, as are other articles about the school online. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ロドリゲス恭子 (talkcontribs) 02:38, 13 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)

Seems to be both WP:NOTABLE and WP:PROMO, this page was attempted to be deleted in 2006, but recieved no votes, but 19 years later, the page is still almost unchanged. It still sounds very promotional, I am surprised it has gone this far without a second nomination. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ロドリゲス恭子 (talkcontribs) 02:51, 13 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

This article needs improved sourcing but I don't see how it is promotional. Liz Read! Talk! 18:11, 13 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
By promotional, I originally thought the "Academics" section had a promotional tone to it, but all the sources may have been written by the school themselves. ロドリゲス恭子 (talk) 19:04, 13 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - The 2006 AfD the nom speaks of was speedy closed as a WP:POINT violation. At any rate, this is clearly notable, and a quick WP:BEFORE check would satisfy that. Here are a few sources:

Tagged for notability by BoyTheKingCanDance. The author added a source defining what a madrasa is and removed the notability tag. Then Hey man im josh moved the article to draft because it needed more sources. The author promptly moved it back to article space without improvement. So we're here.

Of the two sources, one is a directory listing giving the head's name, phone number, and email in a list of 26 madrasas in the sub-district. The other is an encyclopedia article about madrasas in general (it doesn't mention this one). Searches in English and Bengali found no sources that would establish notability.

For what it's worth, the corresponding page was speedily deleted from bn.wikipedia on 19 December 2024 by Ferdous for failing to indicate importance (rules there are a little different from here). Worldbruce (talk) 05:28, 11 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. My BEFORE is hampered by my inability outside English, but what I'm seeing presented is almost entirely directory stuff, not much more than the org's website itself. As an aside, this medical school is very new and not all schools which exist are notable. BusterD (talk) 17:59, 15 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Eight Schools Association (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)

The ESA is an association of wealthy college-preparatory boarding schools in the Northeastern United States. I am concerned that this page does not meet WP:GNG because there is minimal direct coverage from outside, reliable sources, based on a review of Google News, Google Scholar, and the Wikipedia Library (inc. EBSCO and JSTOR). In addition, the material in the article (based primarily on sources and data from the member schools) suggests that the ESA has not been very active since 2013. Several members of the association attempted to start an athletics league, which used to have the Wikipedia page Six Schools League. The SSL page was deleted in July 2024 via WP:PROD, as there was no evidence that the league ever began play. I don't think there was any substantive discussion about the deletion then.

As far as I can tell, the only meaningful discussion of the ESA by an outside source appears to be a 2018 book about campus planning by architect and Princeton administrator Robert Spencer Barnett with photos of the ESA campuses. In his preface, the author states that "limiting the scope [of the book] to this group may seem overly restrictive," but "these schools embody most of the opportunities and challenges that exist at peer institutions."

Other than that, specific descriptions of the ESA in outside sources have generally been limited to offhand mentions in articles about member schools.

In addition, on February 6, I left a notability tag and a message on the article's talk page requesting help finding additional sources, with no response. Namelessposter (talk) 18:43, 14 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is not a newspaper. While this recent incident has received local media attention, the subject doesn't meet any criteria of WP:EVENT. It's a tragedy, but unfortunately a common occurrence. BusterD (talk) 22:27, 6 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: This recent incident has received national media attention [29][30][31],[32] and the police have confirmed that it was a Suicide
death due to Ragging, and there is a reference to the evidence, and the topic meets the criteria for WP:EVENT. This is not a common occurrence. An incident that is likely to be a model or catalyst for something else of lasting importance is likely to be noteworthy WP:LASTING. School ragging laws are likely to change because of this, as the police have taken up the case and the case is being heard in court[33]. Spworld2 (talk) 10:52, 7 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It's likely TOOSOON then. Oaktree b (talk) 15:24, 7 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Relisting comment: The arguments for Keep seem to lack P&G basis, but I still don't see consensus to delete or merge with Ragging, where the subject is already briefly covered.

UMSL Student Government Association (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)

WP:ORG non-commercial organization that does not operate on a national scale or have significant coverage from multiple unrelated sources (many sources are from UMSL or the UMSL student newspaper). The scope of UMSL Student Government Association is limited to the students of UMSL. Similar concerns were brought up in a 2008 AfD discussion but no notable sources were added.

There are also very few of these types of articles on Wikipedia (http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Category:Student_governments_in_the_United_States). Articles on that list like Florida Student Association and Hawaii State Student Council are intra-state organizations that work for student populations across whole states whereas the UMSL SGA article serves a single school.
