Reference sources

[edit]

Your adoptee has asked you a question and you do not have a clue where to begin. Some of these links may help:

  1. Help:Contents contains many useful links, which you may want to bring to your adoptee's attention to help get them started.
  2. A good place to start is the Help desk and its FAQ on how to use Wikipedia and the Reference desk for general knowledge questions.
  3. Help:Contents/Policies and guidelines
  4. Impress your adoptee with some fancy tools.
  5. And if all else fails ask a question at Adopt-a-user, Help desk or by using the helpme template.
  6. Some users set their adoptees tasks to help them learn how to use Wikipedia better. You can find an example of this here.

Negotiation

[edit]

Sometimes adoptees may get into conflict with other users. The links below many help you gain the skills or services to help manage them:

  1. The following category lists groups, policies and pages that may be able to help you Category:Wikipedia dispute resolution
  2. See this page to learn some negotiation skills.

When things go wrong

[edit]

Hopefully you will never need to access the links below, but if an adoptee does something inappropriate, those links may be useful:

  1. Wikipedia:Requests for administrator attention or Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents.
  2. Wikipedia:Sock puppetry and if IP check might help Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations.
  3. To query a block see Wikipedia:Appealing a block.

[edit]

Several users have created adoption schools with tasks, questionnaires and assignments for adoptees to complete. You are free to reuse and adapt these under Wikipedia's standard content terms (remember to attribute the original creator, though).
