Utsunomiya (Japanese: 宇都宮市; -shi) is the capital and the most populous city of Tochigi, Japan.

In 2003 the city had an estimated population of 448,363 and a density of 1,436 persons per km². The total area is 312.16 km².

The city was founded on 1 April 1896.
