Protecting Roy Masters
Just to let you know, adding {{sprotected}} or {{protected}} to a page is only a means for an admin to notify users that a page is protected. This does not actually confer protection to the article such as the notice you placed on Roy Masters. If you need help protecting a page, please contact an admin. Thanks! -- zzuuzz (talk) 17:31, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
- Hm, I slapped the {{sprotected}} on about a dozen and half articles in a row that day – Roy Masters was the last one, so I must have lost track and accidentally hit an open Firefox tab at the end. Thanks for the notice. — Rebelguys2 talk 19:38, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
Commercial Content
Sorry for adding links, I'm new and I thought it was ok as I had seen them before!!!
I would like to ask though - if something is free and a resource, how is it commercial? (ie freeadwordscourse.com)
I have had other directory sites listed, and often they are someone elses site with relevant information on but they still have links etc to commercial things on their websites, I have also noticed a few US commericial sites, and some areas asking for external links of a commercial nature.
I put the link to fastfoodshop.co.uk in the Pizza Delivery section as you had news articles to Dominos (how is that not commercial??)
I am just asking on here to make sure that I dont' violate anything
do different editors 'patrol' different areas?

- Hello 22m. There are guidelines you should probably read about What Wikipedia is not, External links and even for SEOs. Those pages will answer some of your questions. If there's one thing I would draw from those guidelines it would be this: The links you put in, indeed your whole existence on Wikipedia to date, appears to be just promotion for your SEO services, whereas Wikipedia is a free encyclopaedia. The thing I was wondering about your freeadwordscourse is, "if this link is to reliable free information, where is the information?". But there is also a second question, "if this information is so great, why have you not added any of it to Wikipedia?". Surely you would like to improve Wikipedia... the best way to do that is to add content instead of links. Thanks. -- zzuuzz (talk) 15:30, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for that, I was testing the water not taking the p*ss!!
I do not know how to add content, just how to add links! I wouldnt be offering anything for free and not be willing to hand over the information - I'm waiting for permission from Google to publish the course worldwide. If they say no - do they rule? or does my valuable information rule? Either way, i would be happy to contribute articles, but they have to be passed to others also yes? Free speech is not easy these days ;-)
Dont assume pre knowledge - tell me what you want to appear and I will make is so, encouragement is better than suspicion...
J
P.S I also put on a link to a free homelearning resource in the UK that was also taken down... and that had nothing to do with SEO - a case of all links being judged as one methinks... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 88.104.150.72 (talk • contribs) .
- Hi again. You can learn how to add content by reading the Introduction. Did you say you won't be offering anything for free? You are probably in the wrong place. Wikipedia is not for self-promotion. -- zzuuzz (talk) 09:22, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
Ok Thanks - I'll do that - I didn't say I wouldnt do anything for free (did I?!), it will save me time having to answer free enquiries on the phone that's for sure!
I'll write an article - how do I get round the Google image copyright issue? - do I just put 'this is an image to show the adwords system?'
Can I send it to you first or do I just post it and wait for it to be taken down? questions, questions...

Can You Possibly Assist? (IVA part 1)
Hi Zzuuzz, I wonder if you can possibly assist. I have already posted an intervention request on the talk page of Brookie however I believe he is presently on holiday. My dilemma is that I have a revenge link remover repeatedly removing a long standing educational link from one of the categories that I started. He has even contacted me via telephone pretending to be from "wikipdia.co.uk" and so I am conscious that I am not dealing with a sensible individual that is willing to enter discussion about why I removed his spam link from the category. He is now also trying to suggest that the original link is from a commercial organisation. Basically he is just being vindictive and I wonder if it would be possible for you to suggest the best course of action? I have pasted below the talk page message that I have left for Brookkie as this explains things in more detail.
'Hi Brookie, I wonder if you can assist? I have just recieved a telephone call (on our consumer advice line)from a chap pretending to be contacting me from Wikipedia.co.uk and complaining because I have twice removed his link spam from a category.
He said and I quote "you are preventing me from doing my work so stop removing my links" Incredulous I know! I informed him that the links had been removed because he is simply spamming on behalf of a commercial IVA lead finding company. He has since continued to add the links and I have removed them but I am assuming that there must exist an easier method of stemming such activity?
The pages in question are below:

Hello ZZZZZZZZ
I was wondering why you keep on removing the free debt advice link?
Regards —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 82.109.155.204 (talk • contribs) .
- Hi. The article is about debt, whereas your link (iva-info-uk.org.uk) is marketing a UK-specific form of bankruptcy. You have very little information about debt on your site. Your link is in the first instance out of place. Please stop spamming it. Thanks. -- zzuuzz (talk) 11:17, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
IVA part 3
Hello Zzuuzz,
Sean is actually being vindictive to us because we booted him off our forum at IVA-info-uk.org.uk.
He used to be an expert poster on this forum but he started to spam his services so we had to remove him.
Sean is claiming that his site is not for profit but that is not correct as all IVAs have to be paid as part of the insolvency act. The link we are trying to add is iva-info-uk.org.uk which links to lots of different players on the market – see:
http://www.iva-info-uk.org.uk/forum/forum_experts.asp
and
http://www.iva-info-uk.org.uk/iva_solutions.asp
Therefore our site is more impartial than his site!

Thanks for your help with this matter. I do appreciate it. I have just added the following post in the spammers talk page in response to their latest post for your perusal. Is there any way to stop them constantly deleting the original link?
Regards
Sean
What utter nonsense! I was stopped from contributing to that particular forum as the owners of the site did not like the fact that I was asking them questions regarding the fact that their organisation was charging comsumers large upfront fees whereas most insolvency practitioners do not see this as ethical best practice.
The fact of the matter is that the organisation that I represent is a long established not for profit debt assistance organisation that has helped millions of individuals worldwide with money related problems. See: http://myvesta.org.uk/testimonials.html , http://myvesta.org.uk/about.html , http://myvesta.org.uk/assistance_fund.html
It was myself that actually started this category and the educational link that has been in place since January this year is a great resource that has assisted many people using the Wikipedia resource. We receive many complimentary emails regarding the resourses that we provide and frankly our heritage speaks for itself.
Indeed I have also added other long standing multimedia educational links in related Wikipedia categories all of which have been happily received by fellow Wikepedians and users alike. For an example see: http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Bankruptcy_in_the_United_Kingdom
I take umbridge with the fact that I have been contacted via telephone by this commercial spammer pretending to be a representative of Wikipedia. This is simply unacceptable behaviour and speaks volumes about the character of the spammer we are dealing with. I note also that they have previously that other Wikipedians have felt it necessary to ban this spammer in other related categories already.
So that there can be no debate as to the nature of the organisation in question please read the attached article below which will serve to clarify the commercial nature of the organisation that the spammer represents as they have recently been bought by another commercial firm.

Huh? There really is only one magazine - there is nothing else out there dude - zero - zilch. It's not a promo statement, its just a statement. Do you really think it's promotional? It is obvious that MrTobacco has aleternative motives. Haveing just begun to explore wikipedia, I find it a bit obsurd that individuals can just reference websites and articles and state them as fact. It seems to me that certain pages need to be overviewed by wikipedia staff and then locked. Referencing vauge and "brief" articles, especially from publications in other countries where much of the journalism is not up to par takes away from Wikipedia's claim of being a legit encyclopedia.
Hawaii Jim
—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Hawaii Jim (talk • contribs) .
- It is also obvious that you and your employer have your own motives. Wikipedia simply demands that information is NPOV and verifiable from reliable sources. As Wikipedia is a tertiary source, we do not really present facts, but present others presenting facts. And it doesn't really matter how you stereotype the quality of the media in one country. So Jim, is it true? My Spanish is a little vague, but it appears to me as though this chap and his business are indeed in court for using the wrong ingredients. I am not sure whether it is a charge (an accusation) or a conviction. I also understand that they are appealing against the judge. Perhaps you could fill in the details. -- zzuuzz (talk) 09:34, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
Miguel y Costas is involved in a pending lawsuit against individuals who have "claimed" that they used different types of wood byproducts instead of just flax to make their papers. The only papers used in reference to the suit were Miguel y Costas's Smoking brand of papers. There has been NO mention whatsoever of Bambu, specifically, especially Bambu in the U.S. . Bambu pays extra to have their papers go through the highest quality paper production M&G offers, for they have low overhead. Miguel y Costas is a large company with multiple outfits, it wouldnt suprise me if they had to cut costs on their papers by using a cheeper process. I can tell you this without getting too technical, there is a vast range in the way by which rolling papers can be made, henceforth changeing the price. I just find it to be very obsurd that this man MrTobacco is tying Bambu rolling papers to a lawsuit that has NOTHING to do with them.. If he wants to prove that Bambu's papers are cancerous, then let a U.S. organization proceed with a study to try and prove this.. By no means would the FDA allow such a product to exist on the U.S. market if this was the case.. All the best..
Jim
- JIM - If that really is your name you should use the Wiki Signature. Note that this is not a lawsuit but a CRIMINAL CHARGE which has been brought against the manufacturer of Bambu. It is a Criminal Case from the #16 court in Barcelona Spain. The president of Miquel Y Costas is facing 4 years in jail as is one of his coworkers (from 20minutes article #3). It's not just a lawsuit and funny enough you mis-spelled Cheeper above and when you posted 10 days ago pretending to be someone else. What a cooincidence that both times someone vandalising the page mis-spelled Cheaper as Cheeper... The public has a right to know about this criminal case as many people who are sick would surely not want to use a paper that is possibly carcinogenous. Think of the people - not just your pocketbook please. Also why did you suddenly move from Argentina, to Hawaii (you're funny...). The IP you use always seems to trace back to NYC...

Links
Hi, Re: links
I added links because I noticed there were already several commercial links within the articles concerned from other companies (I don't know if you noticed these or not?).
However, I still feel that although my links are commercial they are relevant to the categories concerned and add value as they provide further information on the subject matter discussed. Nevertheless I will respect the Wikipedia rules, but do ask you to reconsider your decision, or at least let me add my links in the external links section at the bottom of the page.
If you don't change your mind though, can you also remove the other commercial links from those articles?
Best regards,
Peter. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.79.139.222 (talk • contribs) .

Re: Links - further info
Sorry maybe there wasn't enough information in my previous message for you to know what I'm talking about, I'm referring to the GAMSAT links I added to the GAMSAT page.
On checking you do seem to have removed most of the other commercial links but at the bottom there is still a link described as "Practice Test Material" which is a commercial link to a company called Ozimed. Is it OK to put links there or will that be removed too?
Thanks,
Peter. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.79.139.222 (talk • contribs) .
- Hi Peter. The relevant guidelines are at WP:EL, in particular, Links to normally avoid number 4 - sites which exist to sell products or services. Sometimes it is not always possible to identify them first time, and I have since removed the other promotional link you mentioned. Such links should only really exist on Wikipedia if there is some really good free content to go with it, but this does not appear to be the case here. Hope you find this equitable. -- zzuuzz (talk) 17:52, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
Constituent country
"Constituent country" is a controversial term only used by one community in Northern Ireland and dismissed by the other as complete rubbish. It was agreed because of its controversial nature, and the fact that it is only used largely by one community, not to use it on WP and to use constituent entity instead. A POV pusher, as part of his political campaign to push pro-Unionist terminology on WP, deleted the agreed footnote and replaced it with a constituent country link when other neutral users deleted his attempt to cram 7 notes into the opening paragraph about it. You kept reverting back to a form of words that it was agreed not to use, and a footnote that had been secretly placed in instead of the agreed one. All I and others were doing was removing a term it was agreed not to use. That term is not an option in that article. FearÉIREANN\(caint) 23:30, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
- I see your point Jtdirl - you'll notice I only changed it once, to tidy up a preceding change. I actually prefer the term part - you can understand why it's the British government's preferred term (in a diplomatic sense). -- zzuuzz (talk) 17:52, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

- Madman, links to printing an article, or asking the website to send it to a friend, is not adequate permission for it to be used on Wikipedia. I'd encourage you to seek clarification of the permission from the website owner, because these images will probably be deleted without it being explicitly given. -- zzuuzz (talk) 17:52, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

- As I have mentioned, we cannot use the existing map that we are talking about, because the copyright is owned, and reserved, by someone else. It would be illegal and against Wikipedia policy to use it. There would be nothing inherently wrong with developing another map, as long as the copyright in the map is not owned by someone else. -- zzuuzz (talk) 15:17, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
Vandalism fighting
- Hi - you are doing a great job of reverting vandals - thanks. Can I ask if you could warn them more often too. I know it is a pain, but it empowers us to block them more quickly, blocking if they haven't been warned is not strictly within the policy. The template {{blatantvandal}} is good for instances of blatant vandalsim and is effective for firmly stating one more bit of vandalism and you can be blocked - ie this is your once and only warning, cease now. Don't forget to subst it. Thus for the sorts of edits at Asian (people), add the following code to the user's or IP's talk page:
{{subst:blatantvandal}}--~~~~
If somebody notices the next instance (and it is soon after) and they have admin tools they can then block on sight.
More warning templates, escalating gently and more specifically can be found at Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace
thanks --Arktos talk 21:00, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks Arktos. You've probably noticed that I am no stranger to issuing {{bv}} and other warnings. That editor you mentioned had a stack of previous warnings and a notice on his talk page which said he was likely to get "an immediate block without further warning". There was no empowerment involved. It was not a pain, but pointless to add yet another warning. If I'd reported the editor to AIV, he would be unlikely to be blocked as he didn't edit since. Good job you turned up eh. -- zzuuzz (talk) 21:14, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
- I know what you mean about multiple warnings. However, given the IP can be used by more than one person and they may not have read the talk page, I feel one bright orange banner drawing attention to their talk page is a good idea. The talk pages of those IPs are a problem. I don't want to spend my time cleaning them up or archiving them, but messages down the bottom might not be seen by a newbie. Maybe a bot could clean them for us (thought I must do something about). I didn't delve into your contributions history too hard, so it my comments related more to the lack of a warning for, although I had noticed that you did warn 168.8.249.57 (talk · contribs · block log) but pretty politely given the edits he was making. I interpreted its removal as a justification of the current format. Unfair deletion of link
Hello ZZuuz,
I disagree with your message and the part that you deleted our School link. Our link was real estate related and we are state approved school (Lic: #2200-05) and provide licensing education to real estate students in California and in near future nationwide. I was asked to put our link on Real Estate Agent and Broker Page. I cannot see more relevant information on this page. I am sorry but I don’t understand your objections because there are lists of high schools, colleges and private institutions universities in www.wiki.x.io . In addition, it seems unfair to me that another school "Allied Real Estate School", approved by the same Real Estate Department stayed on the list while we were erased. Maybe our website design make our school look like less of a school? Regarding content, I actually thought to create new page “Real Estate School” and write about real estate learning.

Anglosaxoncelt
Hi ZZUUZZ
Re: The anglosaxoncelt thing. If you google up "anglo/saxon celt" you get lots of hits. I don't know why they separate the words like that. In North America we use "anglo/saxon celt" to denote those of us of mixed lineage. And the term is used all the time. It would be better to eliminate the spaces and slash and make it all one word. This is a very important term in North America. I am truly shocked that you are dismissing me the way you do. I have lived in England, and I believe that many people from that region who try to put down the term 'anglosaxoncelt' or anglo/saxon celt' are showing racist undertones. We don't do that in NA, where we are proud to state our racial mix. We are just so tired of the term "Heinz 47", to denote us. Do not dismiss this important term so lightly, because there are millions upon millions more of us in North America than there are in the UKLdjenks 19:09, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Ldjenks. No one is even discussing the origins or background of Americans or other people of 'English' or UK origin. It is irrelevant. I hope you don't think that is dismissive - the issue is really about the term "anglosaxoncelt". You say, "It would be better to eliminate the spaces and slash and make it all one word". This is not what encyclopaedia do - we don't coin new terms. You say it is "a very important term in America" - Google would disagree. If it was in any sort of common usage it would appear on Google. I recommend you concentrate your efforts on established terms, ones which already exist and are verifiable. -- zzuuzz (talk) 19:28, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Hello Zzuuzz
Thanks for the message of welcome. I'm not new to wiki but usually contribute to the Welsh language edition (http://cy.wiki.org/wiki/hafan). By the way, was it you who was editing the List of Welsh Language Poets page? I find it so annoying on wikipedia that someone who starts editing AFTER you have started takes precededence (nothing personal - I've probably inadvertently done it to somebody else before now!). No great harm done; only the last section was wiped (16th century) and I always save to a text file before posting if I've done a lot on a page(learnt the hard way!). I was in two mind myself about changing the list parameters as the 16th century marks a fairly useful break alhtough some poets in the old tradition cross it. Its so late I don't have time to do more tonight / this morning but think I'll make a new page with the present material headed as now + "(6th-16th century)", or something like that. Maybe you (was it you?) have already moved the 17th century+ material (such as it was!) to a new page? Anyway, it's not there now! But maybe this is mistaken identity and you're wondering what I'm rambling on about?! Hello again anyway, and "diolch am y croeso" (thanks for the welcome).Enaidmawr 03:35, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

KBR
KBR really does SUCK! Its OK that you removed my entry, but you really should have to live at ANACONDA for a year with KBR before you make a change to my entry. I was there for OIF 2 and feel that KBR was ripping off everyone in the states as well as in IRAQ. KBR Sucks!

Stop being picky
This blog has alot to add to the post. The adsense website itself does not tell you the secrets of where to place the ads, color combinations etc. Plus none of the advice on the blog is being charged for. I believe this is a well rounded blog, giveing genuine help to those who may need it.
Thank You! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tenkage (talk • contribs) .
DA VINCI CODE
I was just reading in your talk archives the guy who said Da Vinci Code was sin and had no place on Wikipedia. And You stupidly said sin has every place as long as their is a source. Well buddy I agree with that guy. Da Vinci Code should be deleted, IT IS SIN AND SIN HAS NO PLACE ON A GOOD WEBSITE LIKE WIKIPEDIA. DELETE IT NOW OR I WILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 75.109.101.139 (talk • contribs) .
Well do you understand?
- If you wish to delete something please see the Deletion policy. -- zzuuzz (talk) 17:51, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
You are not answering my question? Why should sin be on Wikipedia? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 75.109.101.139 (talk • contribs) .
- Wikipedia is an attempt to cover all existing human knowledge, including the bad stuff. That's why we have articles on Sin, Murder, the Devil and other such 'bad' things. It is better that people can know the objective facts about something, so that when you say a book is a sin, people can find out more so they know how to identify it, and if necessary, avoid it. -- zzuuzz (talk) 21:39, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the fix, Part Deux
I see you caught and reverted the change to my user page. That was the first vandalism on my user page - must be some form of rite of passage! Thanks for the fix, again. Agent 86 17:27, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
- No problem - anytime! -- zzuuzz (talk) 17:54, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

[2] Thanks for fixing my mistake there. Sometimes the rollback button is not the right way to revert vandalism. --Guinnog 09:07, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
- No problem - we both reverted at the same time, otherwise I would have used a more appropriate description. -- zzuuzz (talk) 09:18, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

Admin
Looking through your talk page, I can't find someone offering to nominate you for adminship. Is it something that you have considered? You were one of those cliched 'you mean he's not an admin?' cases for me! --Robdurbar 16:25, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you for the compliment. Your timing is impeccable, as I was just thinking the same thing and preparing to ride through on a self-nom ticket. I'm not sure if you are offering to nom? If so I would be honoured to accept. If not, at least I know I can probably count on your vote :) -- zzuuzz (talk) 19:16, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
- I would be happy to nominate. I will do so some time today. --Robdurbar 09:40, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

Help
Dear Zzuuzz, Hi, My name is Deepa H Ramakrishnan, (I spell it Diparamakrishnan in my mail. I am an Indian Citizen and work as a reporter in a leading English daily. I am currently working on a page for my father H Ramakrishnan. If someone goes through all the links that there are for him, they will know but a small portion about him. He doesnt know that i am doing this for him. I am also trying to build a website and am building content for him. I have added a lot of external links for him. But i dont still understand how to wikify the page. I am not a computer savvy person. I have done something following Rayulu's method. But i dont know if i am right. then i am unable to understand how to make links. I understand that they are key words that are highlighted and are in blue and lead to another page if clicked. Please help me with these things. Till August though i have read contents from Wikipedia I didnt know that such a lot of work was involved in making the site. I would like to be an editor or something and contribute my bit towards it. thanks a million for the warmth shown by you regards deepa H RamakrishnanDiparamakrishnan 12:51, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
H Ramakrishnan Article
About this article - I did the use rollback initially but I obviously got confuse and actually went into the article and manually changed it as the java script did not seem to be working.
I try to check what I am doing when I do rollback - obviously got it wrong here. I though I did some okay changes at the start as well though - e.g. Putting H Ramakrishnan name at the start of the article like we are meant to do see Manual of Stlye.
Sorry if I caused trouble :):) --Lethaniol 12:52, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

Dear Zzuuzz and Lethaniol and all the others who worked on my page, thanks a lot, lot, lot. still the message says not enough links, so it will take a bit of time for me understand the concept of links. regards Diparamakrishnan 08:55, 12 September 2006 (UTC)deepa h ramakrishnan
