Information icon Hello, I'm ZfJames. I noticed that you recently removed content from Byzantine Empire under the Komnenos dynasty without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Overzealous tagging

You tagged User:Daask/sandbox/Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine for CSD with G1, G11, and G13. While this is virtually an empty page and therefore inadvertent deletion is not a big deal, I don't believe any of these criteria apply in this case. Please be more careful in the future. WP:UAA reports on users with no edits

Information iconGenerally, there is no reason to report usernames with no edits whatsoever. Per WP:UAAI: "Wait until the user edits. Do not report a user that hasn't edited unless they are clearly a vandal. We do not want to welcome productive editors with a report at UAA, nor do we want to waste our time dealing with accounts that may never be used." The exceptions are obvious hate speech or names that attack a living person/Wikipedia editor, those are blockable even without any edits, but other run-of-the-mill violations need not be reported unless and until they at least attempt to edit, and you should be able to clearly explain what the problem is if it is not immediately evident.

For whatever reason, every day dozens, if not hundreds of accounts are created that never make one single edit. It is our responsibility as admins to conscientiously review every report a user makes at UAA, so we have to check for contribs, deleted contribs, and tripping of the edit filter for every one of these reports, only to find out there's nothing there and therefore no problem to be solved. So we add the {{wait}} tag to the report, it goes to WP:UAA/HP for a week or more, and must then be reviewed again to see if the account has since become active before removing it. That's time that could be spent doing more productive things, but you basically obligate admins to do it by making such reports. Beeblebrox (talk) 00:35, 19 June 2018 (UTC)

By the same token, generally it is not a good use of your time to be welcoming users with no edits. The community has repeatedly rejected the idea of any sort of automatic welcoming before a single edit is made. Beeblebrox (talk) 00:37, 19 June 2018 (UTC)

Speedy deletion contested: Draft:La Mirada Punks

Hello Susmuffin. I am just letting you know that I contested the speedy deletion of Draft:La Mirada Punks, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Not promotional at all. The article makes it clear that the gang is a group of criminals. Thank you. Eastmain (talkcontribs) 05:29, 24 June 2018 (UTC)

User talk pages

Hello. I noticed you restored content to Dr.Koo's talk page with this edit. This is not generally done. Please take a few minutes to read WP:BLANKING and WP:Don't restore removed comments. As the user is blocked, I don't know if they'll undo your edit, or even see it. I'm going to leave it alone. It's up to you to decide if you want to revert yourself; I probably would, were I in the same position. Cheers, BlackcurrantTea (talk) 12:45, 24 June 2018 (UTC)

Hello Susmuffin, and thanks for patrolling new pages! Your signature

Please amend your custom signature so that is is clear who it belongs to, i.e. it should include your username. Thank you. —DoRD (talk) 11:52, 26 June 2018 (UTC)

@Susmuffin: I note you have edited plenty since DoRD left you this request. To clarify, this is per the username policy: A customised signature should make it easy to identify the username, to visit the user's talk-page, and preferably user page and are to identify you as a contributor. If your signature is unnecessarily confusing, editors may request that you change it; please note that signatures that link to, but do not display, the user's username (for example by signing with a nickname, as in User:Nickname or Nickname) can be confusing for editors (particularly newcomers). The actual username always appears in the page history, so using just the nickname on the relevant talk page can make your signed comments appear to be from a different person, which I think just about covers it. Many thanks, —SerialNumber54129 paranoia /cheap sh*t room 18:21, 26 June 2018 (UTC)

Information icon Hello. Your recent edit to National University of Distance Education appears to have added the name of a non-notable entity to a list that normally includes only notable entries. In general, a person, organization or product added to a list should have a pre-existing article before being added to most lists. If you wish to create such an article, please first confirm that the subject qualifies for a separate, stand-alone article according to Wikipedia's notability guideline. Your edit did not provide references to reliable sources to establish notability and status as an academic associated with the university. It is often less work to create the article first, then add the name to the list. Gab4gab (talk) 00:18, 27 June 2018 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Napa Valley Unified School District

Hello Susmuffin. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Napa Valley Unified School District, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: School districts have near-inherent notability per WP:GEOLAND, and educational institutions are exempt from A7. I see that user:KolbertBot paid the article a visit in June 2018, so I don't think many if any of the links should be made https. Please be more careful. UAA reports on users with no edits

You speedily archived my message last time I posted here, which is generally taken as a sign that you read and understood it.[1] If that’s not the case please review it again, and maybe take another look at WP:UAAI as a decent number of your UAA reports get declined. Susmuffin, did you have these same issues with your previous account(s)? Overzealous patrolling, minimal or no response to editors who raise concerns regarding your edits...that sort of thing? --Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 19:33, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
I have not used a another account to patrol, if that is what you are asking. No, I do not have a sockpuppet. ―Susmuffin Talk 19:43, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
It's absolutely clear that this is not your first account, what I'm wondering is if you had the same problems with your previous accounts that ended up in a block (making this block evasion), or if this is veering towards a failed clean start.--Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 19:45, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
I did have another account that was last used in 2009, when I was 11 years old. I was never blocked and never made use of the clean start option, if that existed then. Honestly, I barely remember that I even had the account in the first place. If it would help, I can give you a link to the account's userpage. ―Susmuffin Talk 20:18, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
In my 11+ years on this site, as an admin and checkuser, I have never seen a legitimate new account make this as their third edit, less than an hour after creating their account. Having an account as a child nearly ten years ago can't explain your edit history. Just saying.--Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 20:59, 22 August 2018 (UTC)

Question

What do you think about removing webcomics from arts in vital article list? Polandball is enaugh vital in your opinion? Dawid2009 (talk) 18:22, 26 August 2018 (UTC)

I would avoid making any large removals from the Level 5 list at this point, as it is far from being completed. Also, I would categorise webcomics as a form of art. ―Susmuffin Talk 02:20, 27 August 2018 (UTC)
I agree that webcomics are form of art but we do not have listed Hetalia: Axis Powers which is much more vital webcomic than webcomics which are currently listed. I also mentioned Slender Man in disscussion due to fact that Crazy Frog and Slender Man clearly are more vital Internet phenomena than Polandball and at least on the same level what Hatsune Miku which is listed. We also need to remember that Deutch Wikipedia which has very rigorous deletionism for fictional creatures does not have articles about listed creatures such like Harry Potter (character), Darth Vader and has articles about Crazy Frog and Slender Man, so disscussion about including these creatures really would be valuable. Anyway if you still disagree that Slender Man and Crazy Frog can not be listed we can add other concept such like Pinocchio, Christmas elf, The Gingerbread Man but in this case creatures which are not described in German Wikipedia in my opinion also should be definietly removed
In my opinion we also should create new secion at social sciences about: Media franchises. Because we have currently various media franchises in diffrent places listed. At fictional characters Flash and Green Lantern do not fit to this section.
In my opionion we also should add to mythological creatures new section which would be titled: specific mythological creatures. And under this section subtitles: general (for creatures such like Wandering Jew currently listed at fiction and Tooth fairy currently listed at myths/religion), paranormal (for example for UFO which is not listed) ald cryptides (for Yeti, Big foot etc.)
I am also not sure Don Juan and Roland are fictional characters. There were some time ago disscussion about this type creatures. Anyway it seems to me that they are historical creatures near at the same level what Saint Nicholas and Blackbeard.
What do you think about my comments and ideas above? I hope you will replied. Cheers Dawid2009 (talk) 22:09, 27 August 2018 (UTC)

Hello, I'm Peaceray. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed that you unlinked one or more redlinks from Giacomo Casanova. Often redlinks can be helpful, so we don't remove them just because they are red. They help improve Wikipedia by attracting editors to create needed articles.

In addition, clicking on the "What links here" special link (in the Wikipedia Toolbox at left) on a missing article shows how many—and which—articles depend on that article being created. This can help prioritize article creation. Redlinks are useful! Please, only remove a redlink if you are pretty sure that it is to a non-notable topic and not likely ever to be created. Thanks! Hello, Susmuffin. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Table code formatting

Hi! Of the many Dispenser edits you made recently, I noticed this one, which edited the page's table to have a |- placed directly before the table's headers. To me, this appears rather uncommon, and it didn't really change anything visibly, but is this the proper code formatting for tables? Regards. Lordtobi () 09:34, 19 January 2019 (UTC)

Help:Table seems to suggest that a |- is produced before the ! header when one selects "Insert a table." That is probably why Dispenser does this. I have tested this, and the results contradict Help:Table. Furthermore, the Manual of Style suggests that a |- is put before the ! header. I have no idea why the guides contradict with what "Insert a table" does. ―Susmuffin Talk 15:57, 19 January 2019 (UTC)

I understood Wikipedia should not be taken as fully reliable as anyone can change it. I therefore was not looking for rules, and didn't notice anything in particular. I have been a member of Bearsden Choir since 1981 and was aware that some of the info already given was not completely accurate, and also of course , Andrew Nunn has been our Conductor since 2014. I do like things to be accurate, however, I just did it because it was possible at the time, I do not have time to read up, or give citations.

It will therefore have to remain absolutely out of date !!

re: Recent edit to Adult adoption

Hi Susmuffin,

I changed "children" to "minor children" to better summarize the law to which it referred: The Adoption and Children Act (2002) states, "An application for an adoption order may only be made if the person to be adopted has not attained the age of 18 years on the date of the application."

The unedited statement was: "In the United Kingdom, only children may be adopted." Since all persons who had parents are children, saying "only children may be adopted" strikes me as tantamount to the trivial statement that "only persons may be adopted". However, that would include adult children as well and the statement would contradict the law it refers to. Consequently, I made the modification.

Perhaps the article should simply say "In the United Kingdom, only minors may be adopted" or adult adoption is not allowed in the United Kingdom. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.164.76.199 (talk) 08:15, 19 February 2019 (UTC)

The context makes it clear that "children" refers to people who are under the age of majority. However, I would not object to the replacement of "children" with "minors," as they are synonyms. ―Susmuffin Talk 03:52, 20 February 2019 (UTC)

Nationalism

Regarding edit on nationalism page, that wrongly stated that annexation of Crimea by Russian Federation in 2014 was driven by Nationalism. "...More recently, nationalism was an important driver of the controversial annexation of Crimea by Russia..."

First of all, the annexation of territory of another country was an illegal act, as a result of occupation. So no controversy here, but obvious disregard of international law.

Secondly, Russian Federation is trying to resurrect Soviet Union, and there was nothing nationalistic about Soviet Union.

Thirdly, the only nationalism would be possible in Crimea would be nationalism of Crimean Tatars if they were trying to create national state. Annexation by Russian Federation is dictated by totally different drive - imperialism. Russian Federation itself, as a federation of Buryats, Bashkors, Komi, Sakha, Tuva, Dagestan,... and many others, that can only function by offering its subjects foremost imperialistic but not nationalistic ideas. And the occupation of Crimea is a clear result of such imperialistic tendencies in politics of Russian Federation.

Financial Times: Russia: Imperialism awakes [2]

The Guardian: Putin’s desire for a new Russian empire won’t stop with Ukraine [3]

Europe Solidaire Sans Frontières: Three forms of Russian imperialism: Empire in Russian History [4]

The Conversation: Russia’s imperial mindset dates back centuries – and it is here to stay [5]

Archiving

Hi Susmuffin, as a matter of interest, why did you change one archive to another at the Holocaust? I sometimes use archive.is because the Internet Archive is often slow to load, and for a few days recently I wasn't able to load it at all. I don't mind which one is used, but I wondered whether you're aware of some reason archive.is ought to be replaced. SarahSV (talk) 18:41, 14 March 2019 (UTC)

I'm sorry, I only glanced at the change before leaving this. You didn't add the Internet Archive but expanded the URL. Is it better to use the long URLs than the short ones? SarahSV (talk) 18:47, 14 March 2019 (UTC)
Apologies, "Fix dead links" did that on its own. Looking at the two links, the shortened one does load slightly faster. ―Susmuffin Talk 19:12, 14 March 2019 (UTC)
No worries. I see editors do this quite a lot (rmv archive.is, or change the URL), so I was wondering whether there was a problem with it or whether the script's default is to remove those links. I suppose I should start by looking at why the script treats them as dead links. Thank you. SarahSV (talk) 01:44, 15 March 2019 (UTC)

God is Dead

Thanks for your message. You have removed a citation from the above article and yet you have asked me to explain why this might be a problem. I'm a bit puzzled. Perhaps you would be kind enough to explain your reason for removing the citation. 82.27.90.157 (talk) 12:14, 17 March 2019 (UTC)

The citation was very vague. ―Susmuffin Talk 13:02, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
The Re-evaluation of Human Values is a central concept (prophecy) in Nietzsche's philosophy and can be found discussed in a number of his works. It concerns a hypothetical period of history that corresponds with what we today call post-modernity. Ecce Homo is only one such work - albeit a very important one - where the concept is discussed. 82.27.90.157 (talk) 13:20, 17 March 2019 (UTC)

My edits were relevant

My edits were relevant considering that the party/faction JKLF is a terrorist group. It has killed both soldiers & innocent civilians of my country, including women & children. It is relevant edit to call it a terrorist group. Furthermore, Hizb-ul-Mujahideen is a Pakistani terrorist group as designated by the US, EU, & India. There is not a shadow of a doubt when I edit an article calling them terrorists.

Lyles, TN photographs

Thanks for your patience as I learn to use Wikipedia!

Most, if not all pictures, that I've seen on Wikipedia have been of high quality. Is there ever a time to use old, lesser quality photos from early 1900's in an article? I have seen an old photo of Lyell Station and a photo of a steam engine passing through Lyles. I couldn't find anything in The Tea Room about this topic. I don't want to contact the ladies who possess these if it is unlikely they could be used.

Thanks again, Abaker2019 (talk) 17:50, 30 March 2019 (UTC) 3/30/2018

Hi

Dissapointed that you blocked my edit of this page - the song Mama's Little Girl has no explanation as to the song meaning and I believe that my edits should be applied and asked for comment on - short of asking Sir Paul or Heather Louise not sure what else can be done! Do me a favour go and listen to the song and think of the 5 year old Heather Louise at the farm on the Mull of Kintyre - this song must be about her! Mixed Gender Hurling

Thanks for the 'heads-up'. Agreed that the page 'looked' better previously, I should have been more succinct. I guess the page now gives the impression that something (Mixed Gender) exists which does not exist, in reality? Or, perhaps I've mis-understood what Wiki categorises as a 'Mixed Gender' sport? Let's work this out, together and build a better page for Hurling (and for Wiki!) Kind Regards. Sean

In zoology human is also the part of study including all animals left on the planet. Many people think and say that zoology does not include humans. So as a zoologist I just included the term humans in its study fields. So, I think it was a correct edit. I also respect your work, but how can it be a wrong edit. Anyway, thank you very much for your support.

Doomguy edit.

I have the link to where I got the info. Only problem is... I don't know how to post it as a reference; comes from another wiki and I cannot find the right article to put it under or it to work.97.127.92.185 (talk) 07:15, 2 July 2019 (UTC)

Other wikis can't be used as a reference normally. However, for the future (if you are uninterested in creating an account to have access to the visual editor) just type <ref>https://example.com</ref>. Cheers, –MJLTalk 07:30, 2 July 2019 (UTC)

About My edit on "Spumoni"

Dear Susmuffin,

I'm born and raised in Italy where I spent 30 years of my life. My edit on "Spumoni" was not an act of vandalism, I just wanted to let the people know what "Spumoni" is in Italy, a totally different dessert and trust me there's no place where you can find the "Spumoni" ice cream flavorful in the whole Italian territory.

I just wanted to give more credit to wikipedia. Trust me, ANY italian that read the american "Spumoni" page will laugh at that. Expecially the part where it says "Spumoni is a staple dessert in Italian culture after a dinner of ravioli". This is very racist. And not real as well since "Spumoni" is typical of the South of Italy and "Ravioli" are from the North of Italy.

Feel free to verify this informations with an italian wikipedia admin

Rafiqul Islam Miah

Hi, regarding the page Rafiqul Islam Miah, I have added one reference (https://www.thedailystar.net/news-detail-37206) with the discussion around the Bihari Community getting citizenship (daily star reference).

Please add that line now. For rest of the edits, there are links which I will add. The article as it stands is extremely incomplete, lacks information and details.

As for biography related details, the positions he held were incomplete and did not have references either. But that incomplete without reference details were accepted but my edits which had more details (he was minister/state minister for 3 different ministries) have been moved.

Education related facts (degrees from which school), political positions held and currently being held are easily verifiable. The existing article also states few of them without reference, so I'm not sure why these partial facts are there while more details I wrote have been removed.

Please advice the proper procedure to put references regarding biography details (which may not all be available on websites)

Hi Susmuffin. Thanks for copyediting my posts on this page. I am sorry for missing signs at my votes but it was caused due to fact I copied long edition from my sandbox where I were preparing my proposals during last few weeks. I do it because of I decided that I will slowly write a massage (without postdated signs) until I share my thoughts on VA talk. I am also going to correct my message at section: "Global proposals" because of I know that it stil has grammal mistakes and is quite understandable but I will do it littly later when I get enaugh time for it. Need For Speed World - closure - offline server - soapbox racer

First, I'm wondering what the Wiki rules are about third party modifications for a game. I seem to recall this was an issue in the case of a third party server made for World of Warcraft, to avoid the monthly fee, and that some references to it were removed, but I don't recall if it was ever in a Wiki article (it is not there now), and I don't know if the third party server is still running. Rcgldr (talk) 02:56, 3 August 2019 (UTC)

@Susmuffin:I have NFS World on my watchlist, and I noted you reverted an edit back to one that is factually incorrect. Early versions of soapbox race world didn't exist until about 2 years after NFS World was shutdown (late 2017), not just "a few months". The edit that you removed correctly noted that early versions of offline servers were running before shutdown. It also correctly noted that player account information could be downloaded, and that some fan sites downloaded all of their members accounts. For example, World Garage forum downloaded player account info for all of it's members, if the member names matched their online names, and also downloaded account info by request. I don't know the details on how this was done, but I have a zip of downloaded accounts, including my own, that work with the offline servers. Most of the post NFS World stuff is posted at elitepvpers forum. Early on, some of this was posted at some Russian forums, but I don't recall the web site names. Prior to soapbox, there were other online servers, which are also mentioned at elitepvpers forum site. Soapbox web site has been "under maintenance" for quite a while, although it still provides a link, and I'm not aware of any currently running servers, although I've never tried any of the online servers. What I've read from various forums and youtube videos, is that servers either reset, or are shutdown, and players have to start over on new servers. I haven't seen any youtube videos made using a soapbox server in the last 6 months or more, leading me to believe that there aren't any servers currently running. Rcgldr (talk) 02:56, 3 August 2019 (UTC)

Again, I'm not sure if the post NFS World stuff should be included in the Wiki article, but if it is to be included, the version that you undid was factually correct, while the one you reverted back to is factually incorrect. I'm also finding the standards for "reliable sources" to be inconsistent for Wiki video game articles. Rcgldr (talk) 02:56, 3 August 2019 (UTC)

I removed the remaining content, as it lacked citations. Also, Internet forums are not reliable sources.Susmuffin Talk 14:24, 3 August 2019 (UTC)
What I meant about Wiki standards for reliable sources for video games is what I see in quite a few video game articles. A lot of the content on certain articles is based on actual game play, so the reader would need to get a copy of the game to verify, an issue that has been brought up in the past in Wiki video games article. Another debated source would be a youtube video of actual game play. In some cases there are developer approved or created guides for those games, which probably should be considered as reliable sources, but not many games have such guides. Then again, I don't see how actual game play is much different than an article about a book or movie that relies on the book or movie itself for a description of the book or movie (such as plot), or a video clip (youtube) from a movie. For comparison, articles about programming algorithms usually rely on industry approved texts or books about the algorithm, rather than the algorithm itself. Rcgldr (talk) 18:46, 3 August 2019 (UTC)
As for internet forums, what I was referring to was the downloadable content, as opposed to posts about such content. Again, this gets to the issue of using the actual download itself (running it) as a reliable source. Rcgldr (talk) 18:49, 3 August 2019 (UTC)

  • Following a research project on masking IP addresses, the Foundation is starting a new project to improve the privacy of IP editors. The result of this project may significantly change administrative and counter-vandalism workflows. The project is in the very early stages of discussions and there is no concrete plan yet. Admins and the broader community are encouraged to leave feedback on the talk page.
  • The new page reviewer right is bundled with the admin tool set. Many admins regularly help out at Special:NewPagesFeed, but they may not be aware of improvements, changes, and new tools for the Curation system. Stay up to date by subscribing here to the NPP newsletter that appears every two months, and/or putting the reviewers' talk page on your watchlist.

Since the introduction of temporary user rights, it is becoming more usual to accord the New Page Reviewer right on a probationary period of 3 to 6 months in the first instance. This avoids rights removal for inactivity at a later stage and enables a review of their work before according the right on a permanent basis.

Greetings! This is in response to your disruptive edit to my change on the Doug DeMuro page stating he has "well over" 2 million subscribers. At the time Doug's YouTube account had over 2.9 million subscribers and it has recently passed 3 million. I am unaffiliated with Doug DeMuro and the edit was simply to emphasize that it was well over two million subscribers. If you have any questions feel free to contact me on my Talk page.

Hello, Susmuffin,

I declined your speedy deletion tag for this user page. "Not a webhost" is intended for editors who use their user pages for specific purposes, like tracking their fantasy football leagues or writing a blog. This user page just had one sentence on it and it could be that the editor is thinking of writing an article on their user page. Please don't tag user pages unless they have substantial, non-encyclopedic content or if they are being used to promote a person or product. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 23:09, 9 August 2019 (UTC)

You wrote: "Hello, and thank you for your recent contribution. I appreciate the effort you made for our project, but unfortunately I had to undo your edit because I believe the article was better before you made that change. Feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions."

Your edit seems highly subjective. All I did was to add a comment about one of the quoted sources. As it stands the article relies on a very questionable study to claim that healing works. The comment and reference I added points out several flaws in that study. So in my subjective view your revert of my edit made the article worse.

Hello. Why is it suspicious to add "so-called" before "Chinese unification" in the "New Party" article? Many Taiwanese reject the premise of the term--that Taiwan is a part of China--and so adding "so-called" makes that clear. Without that, it seems to take a heavy blue/red slant.

Edits to Jamil Jivani's pageYouronto (talk) 18:15, 24 September 2019 (UTC)

Hi Susmuffin,

I was wondering why my edits on Jamil Jivani's page were seen an not constructive? I spent a lot of time during the summer getting the information from Jamil Jivani (my boss) himself. I do not think it's fair that you removed the changes I made because they were perceived to be "not constructive", when he gave me all the information to populate his page with. Isn't the whole point of Wikipedia to contribute to contribute to the collective pool of knowledge we have as human beings? Why are you governing what is being proposed, especially when it was not racist, homophobic or discriminatory in any way? Is there any way you can revert back to the changes I made? If you can this would be greatly appreciated. (24/09/19)

ArbCom 2019 election voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 on Monday, 2 December 2019. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

If you wish to participate in the 2019 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:24, 19 November 2019 (UTC)

Théoden

I have tried to rewrite the article on Theoden to align with this statement

"Works of fiction are generally considered to "come alive" for their audience. They therefore exist in a kind of perpetual present, regardless of when the fictional action is supposed to take place relative to the reader's "now". Thus, generally you should write about fiction using the historical present tense, not the past tense. (See WP:Manual of Style § Verb tense and WP:Manual of Style/Writing about fiction § Contextual presentation.) Examples:

Homer presents, Achilles rages, Andromache laments, Priam pleads. "Holden Caulfield has a certain disdain for what he sees as 'phony'." "Friends is an American sitcom that was aired on NBC."

However I am facing being reverted and thwarted by two heavy handed undying supports of Tolkien cruft who will not let the text be changed in any way. This is frustrating, and the exact process that gives us the worst possible LotR related articles. It has also frustrated me to no end. Especially their mindless reverting of all my edits, even when I break out the one edit of removing a dead link so it is a seperate action they still undo it. This is frustrating, and clearly a case of harrassment and an attempt to assert ownership over an article.John Pack Lambert (talk) 20:25, 24 January 2020 (UTC)

  • If you could have a look at the Gondor article and talk pages it might help. I have tried to improve it a little. I am still astonded that there are only 8 non-primary sources, and I am not even sure all 8 of those are no-primary. The article has gone crazy in endless detail and now there are attempts to stop any editing or reformating or cutting back the unending absurdity and length of the article.John Pack Lambert (talk) 20:54, 24 January 2020 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – February 2020

News and updates for administrators from the past month (January 2020).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following a request for comment, partial blocks are now enabled on the English Wikipedia. This functionality allows administrators to block users from editing specific pages or namespaces rather than the entire site. A draft policy is being workshopped at Wikipedia:Partial blocks.
  • The request for comment seeking the community's sentiment for a binding desysop procedure closed with wide-spread support for an alternative desysoping procedure based on community input. No proposed process received consensus.

Technical news

  • Twinkle now supports partial blocking. There is a small checkbox that toggles the "partial" status for both blocks and templating. There is currently one template: {{uw-pblock}}.
  • When trying to move a page, if the target title already exists then a warning message is shown. The warning message will now include a link to the target title. [207]

Arbitration

  • Following a recent arbitration case, the Arbitration Committee reminded administrators that checkuser and oversight blocks must not be reversed or modified without prior consultation with the checkuser or oversighter who placed the block, the respective functionary team, or the Arbitration Committee.

Administrators' newsletter – March 2020

News and updates for administrators from the past month (February 2020).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, the blocking policy was changed to state that sysops must not undo or alter CheckUser or Oversight blocks, rather than should not.
  • A request for comment confirmed that sandboxes of established but inactive editors may not be blanked due solely to inactivity.

Technical news

  • Following a discussion, Twinkle's default CSD behavior will soon change, most likely this week. After the change, Twinkle will default to "tagging mode" if there is no CSD tag present, and default to "deletion mode" if there is a CSD tag present. You will be able to always default to "deletion mode" (the current behavior) using your Twinkle preferences.

Don't be a jerk

I edited my own User: page a while ago, from an IP. You reverted it a decade later. Uh, thanks? I reverted your revert. I hope this doesn't turn into a revert war. This is a whole new level of Wikipedia "deletionista" culture. Greg (talk) 03:53, 5 July 2020 (UTC)

Usernames for administrator attention

Hello, Susmuffin. I noticed that you reported Chris Langan at WP:UAA for using his real name (which is well-known) as his username. That page is intended for usernames "requiring an immediate block". In this case, although a user had asked him last month to confirm his identity, they had not linked to the relevant policy (WP:REALNAME). Thus, Chris had no warning that he was at risk of a block. In the future, if you are in doubt about an established user, could you first warn them, and provide a link to the appropriate policy, before you report them at UAA? Thanks. Speedy deletion declined: User:York4044

Hello Susmuffin. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of User:York4044, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Not blatantly an attack page or negative, unsourced BLP. Thank you. Salvio 12:45, 18 August 2020 (UTC)

To add to that, I agree that the page may be in violation of WP:POLEMIC, but that should be discussed at WP:MFD. Salvio 12:46, 18 August 2020 (UTC)

Message about editing a page

An article you recently created, Algernon Blackwood bibliography, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Edit comments

Hi Susmuffin, I wouldn't want to cramp your style or impede your editing, but "this should be here" or "this is better" tells other editors almost nothing about the edit being made. I know it's nice to keep comments short, but "repos auth control" is no longer and a great deal clearer. Just a suggestion. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 11:51, 25 August 2020 (UTC)

Your draft article, Draft:Frank "Rocky" Fiegel

Hello, Susmuffin. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Frank "Rocky" Fiegel".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia! UnitedStatesian (talk) 04:22, 29 August 2020 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Prose poetry, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Illuminations.
