Re: One of your DYK moves

Thanks for letting me know. 99% of the time, I always see the alt hooks, add them if they are the hooks that have been verified. I'm not sure what I did, but I obviously missed that one. (Maybe I was rushing - I cannot remember) Apologies for the inconvenience. :) \ / () 10:00, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi Ryan!

Hello Ryan, it' nice to meet you, (well I met you in May I think) but I heard from somebody that you make custom userpages, is that true? If so could you design me a knew one? If not could you tell me someone who could, thanks SteelersFan-<span style="color:gold"94 21:30, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Hello. I don't think I recall meeting you before, but anyway, yes, I do redesign user pages, and I'd be happy to redesign yours. Though, I haven't redesigned any user page in a while. Is there anything specific you would like in the design? You can look at User:RyanCross/About to see previous designs I did several months ago. – RyanCross (talk) 23:13, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
Could we do something like this?, but with the skin being the yellow in my signature instead of the blue? And thanks Ryan, I know your an admin so take your time on it. Thanks again. SteelersFan-94 19:49, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
Not exactly... iMatthew 19:55, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
Excuse me? SteelersFan-94 19:58, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
You're excused! ;) iMatthew 20:00, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
What's your deal Matt? Your acting kinda assy to me. SteelersFan-94 20:04, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
RyanCross is not an admin. Also, please read WP:ATTACK and WP:CIVIL. iMatthew 20:05, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
You don't have to link those article's Matt. I think I know what some of the most used guideline pages contain. Any way..*ackward* if you need me to give me anymore info about what I'm thinking Ryan, just let me know. SteelersFan-94 21:17, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
Of course I do, you attacked me and acted uncivil, so it's obvious you need to re-read them. iMatthew 21:34, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
I didn't attack you, I stated something I though was true, I'm sorry, I meant, you were being difficult. 1. I didn't know why you were butting in on a conversation between me and Ryan, (A tedious one at that) but I didn't know what point you were trying to prove, my mistake sorry. I didn't know what you were trying to say, it wasn't an attack, but if it came across that wa and I affended a fellow Wikipedian, (A friend at that) I'm sorry. SteelersFan-94 21:39, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

{outdent} I wasn't butting in, I have RyanCross's talk page watchlisted, and I saw your comment. iMatthew 21:42, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

Sure, I can do something like that, but yellow and black. And to clarify: I'm not an administrator on English Wikipedia, but I am an administrator on Simple English Wikipedia and Simple English Wikiquote like Useight said. Juliancolton: I thought you knew I wasn't an admin here already. :| – RyanCross (talk) 00:19, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
Well..I was thinking yellow and black because of my signature, and the colors of the Pittsburgh Steelers. DO you think it will look bad? SteelersFan-94 20:15, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
I tried black and red because I really like that color combination, but it made it hard to read. Useight (talk) 20:19, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
Hmmmm...What do you think I should try with the color scheme issue Useight? SteelersFan-94 21:16, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

I barely noticed that you did say you'd help me with my userpage when I was looking through your archives. Sorry, I usually wait for a response on my talk page. But, as you can see, iMatt has already done it. So, sorry for not contacting you about it. Just be sure to reply on my talk page next time please because I usually forget to check back here for replies. X-P Well, thanks anyway! 04:25, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

Heh, that was several months ago. I still remember that. Well, no problem, and I'll be sure to reply on your talk page next time. I just prefer replying on my own talk page to keep conversations organized. (It says so in my talk page guidelines on the top of this page) I only reply on other user's talk pages upon request (or if they are new to Wikipedia and they aren't used to looking back on this page, or if I know beforehand that user wants me to reply on their talk page when they add a message here). – RyanCross (talk) 04:31, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
lol. As a matter of fact, a couple of days later, I searched for the conversation on your talk page, and it wasn't there. I looked through your archies and I never found it. I assumed either it was deleted or I overlooked it. Well, again thanks! :-) 03:36, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

revision weirdness

Hi, wikipedia seems to have lost the intermediate revision for the revert you did at WP:AN ([1]), is this the database lag thing again, or was something deleted even from the deleted revisions view because of personal info and such? Or perhaps you don't know either, in which case I'm just looking for someone to share my bewilderment with... --fvw* 00:02, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

I do know that there was a phone number in one of those revisions, and that Ryan emailed oversight. That's probably what happened to it. Best, PeterSymonds (talk) 00:04, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

Can you give me a favour?

Hey, you know Steelers? he recomended you for making talk and user pages. Could you do one for me? Kalajan 20:55, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

I recommend first going through your adoption and being on your own for several months so I know you won't be messing around in your userspace. To me, you still need mentoring on the basics of Wikipedia. Also, having the primary goal to become an administrator is not a good thing as I read from your user page. You consider it your "greatest target". Administrators are no more important than any other non-administrator. It doesn't show a sign of respect either. Any editor can be respected, and you don't need adminship for that. Administrators just have a few extra buttons to do extra maintenance work; that's all. Our goal here is to build an encyclopedia. (If Wikipedia were to change the admin rights to say "user with extra buttons" or "user who does extra maintenance work" instead of "administrator", I wonder if more people would understand that administrators aren't more important than anyone else... just saying) – RyanCross (talk) 00:39, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
Hi, I've been on wikipedia almost the same amount of time as you, and its already been proved I'm not a vandal, cos if not I wouldn't be here right now. And the admin thing is just to motivate meto do a big amount of edits n' all. Cheers! Kalajan 16:30, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
Being on Wikipedia for a long time, but making less than 500 edits is a different story, though. ayematthew 20:03, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
  • Sigh*, Matt and Ryan, please forgive my adoptee's actions. I agree that he need to work in mainspace before he should worry about a custom userpage. A signature is one thing, but your both right. SteelersFan-94 20:21, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
It's the quality of edits that matter, not quantity. – RyanCross (talk) 05:53, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
If you are referring to my comment, however..less than 500 edits doesn't do it for me. ayematthew 19:59, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

Seth's RfA

Ah, I see that you changed your !vote. I'd wanted to mention, last night, that I thought your oppose rationale was valid; I'd merely hoped to point out a subtletly of his case. I certainly hope he passes. The other day, I went to the SBL in the MediaWiki namespace; because, I was curious. Well, it was completely over my head--and we really do need specialists working there. Because I will certainly not be editing it :) Kindest regards, Lazulilasher (talk) 16:35, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

I know my original oppose !vote was valid, but doing more thinking on the request, I decided to be supportive instead. What really made me change my oppose was that Seth just wants to help in an area he has a lot of experience in (WP:SBL) and that he only wants to help in that area; nothing else. If he's doing no deletion work, protection work, blocking work, or any type of admin-task and only SBL, then he doesn't really need any experience here at en.wikipedia. You don't really need to know anything of Wikipedia's policies since spam blacklists doesn't require you to know any. You just need to know what to do, and since Seth has proven he has experience with spam blacklists, I can assume good faith that he is requesting for the right reasons—to simply help en.wikipedia's spam blacklist. – RyanCross (talk) 01:42, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

ad-hoc editor review

From looking at your contributions, you seem to be a very well-rounded editor. An FL, 3 GAs, and a mess of DYKs on top of 310 reports to AIV. I didn't do an in-depth look at your contribs, so I don't know if you have anything major hiding in there. Your high percentage of user talk edits has a slight potential to draw concern, but I seriously doubt that anyone would accuse you of being a Myspacer! Anyways, I hope that helps some. Hi Ryan,

I remember a few months ago you had a really cool siganture and user page under user:ryry5. Is it possible to see it?DFS454 (talk) 18:43, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

No, not even I can see it. But the signature I used as RyRy5 back then was "RyRy5 (talk)". Why do you ask? – RyanCross (talk) 05:09, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
I was thinking of using the same layout for my userpage DFS454 (talk) 08:36, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

Cancelling dyk of March fracture

Sir:

I have nominated for dyk for the article March fracture. The nomination was verified by you, and that article is currently in the next next queue.

while making some edits in that article, I found there is another article on wikipedia on the same topic by the name Stress fracture. It has also a redirect from marching fracture.

Before creating March fracture, I had searched for that topic on wikipedia. But I did not find it, that's my mistake.

Now as there is already an article on wikipedia on the same topic, it will not be fair to present my article for DYK. And I think the nomination should be rechecked.

I will be more carefull next time.

Sincerely yours' Ganesh Dhamodkar (Talk) 06:51, 25 December 2008 (UTC)

    • Yesterday, I went home and again searched for material regarding stress fracture and march fracture. I found that Stress fracture is a broader term, and a March fracture is the stress fracture of metatarsal bones only. so I think both the articles can coexist in wikipedia. Ganesh Dhamodkar (Talk) 02:44, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
Then you can probably have the article you worked on featured in DYK. Good work, RyanCross @ 03:07, 27 December 2008 (UTC)

Thank you. :) Yep, I'll be creating more DYKs more often now. I already took my break. I might even do different topics than baseball. *looks at the below section* — RyanCross (talk) 23:38, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Oh, so I get a DYK for an article I worked on yesterday, but none of the three that I worked on three days ago. Figures... but thanks for the notice. — RyanCross (talk) 23:38, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
Hmmm...how come they don't give awards to the guys who verify these things? Or if not an award, maybe a box of marzipan pastries? Or a bottle of brandy? Or both? :) Ecoleetage (talk) 04:03, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Notice of request for deletion of editor RyanCross :)

RyanCross, the editor you are, has been nominated for deletion. We appreciate your contributions. However, an editor does not feel that you satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination space. Your opinions on yourself are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at User:GlassCobra/Editor for deletion#RyanCross and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit during the discussion but should not remove the nomination (unless you wish not to participate); such removal will not end the deletion discussion (actually it will). DYK for Deekshabhoomi

I have expanded the article Deekshabhoomi fivefold and nominated it for DYK on January 6. Will you please pay attention to it? Ganesh Dhamodkar (Talk) 03:37, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Done. Thanks for asking. — RyanCross (talk) 03:55, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
  • No, it's not expired. There is a big amount of nominations past five days old that get updated to the Main Page eventually. When they say noms expire after five days, they mean you can't nominate an article over five days old. If it was already nominated before five days past, it is okay, as what you did. Just be patient, and it should go up there eventually. Your other nom that was nominated on the 10th was probably just lucky. It happened to me several days ago also. — RyanCross (talk) 03:17, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

A note from the GACC

Hi there RyanCross!
The Good Article Collaboration Center has been restarted, and since you are a member, we are asking for your help in making the articles Seinfeld, Sarah Palin, and President of the United States good articles. We hope to see you there. Cheers. --LAAFansign review 19:06, 27 December 2008 (UTC)

Reply to FLC

No, I saw the flow of remarks saying it wasn't FL Prose, and because I was busy getting South Park and Matt Stone to GAN, I let the article slip out of my mind.--LAAFansign review 02:36, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
