Linking common terms
[edit]Hi, QwertyZ34, and welcome to Wikipedia! You may have received a bunch of "undo" notifications recently, because I undid about a dozen of your edits to country articles where you linked the word capital, such as in this edit of yours to Prague. Generally speaking, links are a good thing, but you can ave too much of a good thing, and MOS:OVERLINK explains some of the things that should not be linked; among those, are "everyday words". The word capital is an everyday word that people reading an article about the capital city of a country are going to understand, and so we don't really need to link it.
You can get general guidance about this from:
- Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Linking#What generally should be linked, and
- Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Linking#What generally should not be linked.
Still, what to link and what not to link is a judgment call, and you may disagree with me about the advisability of linking capital in articles about capital cities. If so, I would suggest raising a new discussion at the WikiProject Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Countries, and ask there for opinions about this. If you do, please add a link to this conversation from there, and {{ping}} me. It may be that other editors will agree with you, and if you achieve consensus for your link edits, then you can keep on making them. But I would hold off making more such edits, until you gain some support for it. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 08:53, 24 January 2025 (UTC)
Country maps replaced with ones that make the country too small to see
[edit]I noticed you changed the type of map for a dozen countries or so, to use the switcher to pick one of several possible views. This might be okay, but then you should pick as default view, a view that allows the country to be seen. Previously, I could see the outlines of Rwanda and Malawi at the Rwanda and Malawi articles, but after your change, I could no longer see the country on the map. In the Africa map, formerly the default, I could easily spot their location, but now it requires a click to see them on my 15-inch screen. Imho, this makes these articles worse, and I have reverted two of your map changes. Probably you can fix the problem just by reinstating your map again, and changing the default image to show just Africa, not the globe.
I have not reverted any of your other map changes, but they may suffer from the same problem, at least for the smaller countries. In general, though, there appears to be a pattern in common between your image changes for country maps noted here, and your linking of the word capital in capital city articles noted in the previous section, which is that you appear to find an edit that you believe is an improvement in some article, and then you replicate it a dozen times or more with identical edits and edit summaries, without much consideration for whether all of them, or indeed any of them are improvements to the articles. That risks eliciting a series of reverts to your edits, which is no fun, and also a waste of two editors' time. A better approach would be to just change a few articles in the way you find beneficial, and then wait a while, to see how it is received by other editors. That way, if they are reverted, you haven't wasted all the time you would have spent changing another dozen or two articles, just to see them all undone.
As far as your map changes to country articles, as you apparently want to carry out this edit en masse, it would be advisable to raise a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Countries first, explaining what it is you want to do, and why you think it is an improvement, and see what kind of feedback you get there. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 09:15, 24 January 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for your advice ! I understand but what with the other capitals like Paris, they have "capital" linked, so should it be removed ?
- And for the maps, I also understand for small countries like Rwanda, Malawi and Eswatini, but, Burundi got a switcher image too, should it be changed ? And taller countries like Mauritania, should image switcher be added ? I also added a switcher image to the article of Slovenia, should i revert this ? Because Slovenia is a small country. Thank you. [edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

- Hello, firstly my edit wasn’t vandalism, I just reverted your edit because it was non-constructive and unneutral, also, it is clearly visible that you copied this message from someone else and just edited it. Thanks. QwertyZ34 (talk) 21:57, 11 February 2025 (UTC)
Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made to Tamara de Lempicka: you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template index/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Thank you. jolielover♥talk 13:32, 25 February 2025 (UTC)
Hello, and thank you for removing vandalism from Tamara de Lempicka. We appreciate this, but unfortunately your edit was not successful in restoring the article to its pre-vandalised state. For future reference, it is better to deal with vandalism by checking the article's page history to determine how it appeared before it was vandalised. You can then restore the whole article, or the relevant part of it, to an appropriate earlier version. If you simply delete the visible vandalism then any content removed or overwritten by the vandal is lost. See How to deal with vandalism for details. Thank you. jolielover♥talk 13:34, 25 February 2025 (UTC)

Revert
[edit]Care to explain how this blind revert complies with WP:NOTDIRECTORY and WP:NOTINDISCRIMINATE while reinstating obvious WP:COI editing? 81.2.123.64 (talk) 22:03, 12 February 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, you removed a lot of content in a article without proper explanaition. Thanks. QwertyZ34 (talk) 22:06, 12 February 2025 (UTC)
- That is not a proper reason for reverting, especially without leaving a more detailed edit summary. A simply glance for a second at the article history would have revealed that more was going on than can be solved by you blindly hitting the 'undo' button just because it was an IP that made the previous edit. Please be more careful in future. 81.2.123.64 (talk) 22:11, 12 February 2025 (UTC)

- I'm not, but you clearly are. I have noted your behaviour on the BLP/N thread. In the meantime, please read WP:NOTDIRECTORY and WP:NOTINDISCRIMINATE to better understand Wikipedia's rules on this type of cruft. 81.2.123.64 (talk) 22:18, 12 February 2025 (UTC)

- There won’t be any discussion. Look, editors contribute daily to Wikipedia, to build an encyclopedia, if you are starting to removing paragraphs because they are "useless" to you, just summarize them, you literally DELETED an heading in the edit i’ve recently reverted. QwertyZ34 (talk) 22:10, 12 February 2025 (UTC)
- At no point did I say these paragraphs were "useless" to me. This is casting WP:ASPERSIONS. Just be more careful with your reverts in future. Slow down: this isn't a game where you get points for being 'first'. 81.2.123.64 (talk) 22:13, 12 February 2025 (UTC)
- You’ve said "Rv, useless" in the edit summary of your latest edit, and, like WP:ASPERSIONS say, paragraph need either to be deplaced, more detailed; adding content, summarized, or deleted ONLY IF it is too bad, too unrelated or have a lot of problems.
