BankRakyat - Bangsar LRT Station

[edit]

Hi Joshua, saw your move on BankRakyat - Bangsar LRT Station. I am of the view that BankRakyat - Bangsar LRT Station while named after Bank Rakyat does not have the spacing as per your move. If you see the stationboard also, there is no spacing there. Would you review your edit there ? Superfast1111 (talk) 14:51, 17 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The name on the station board is the logo of Bank Rakyat, which is a stylized version of the bank's name. English media in Malaysia (New Strait Times, The Star, Malay Mail, The Rakyat Post), as well as a media release from Prasarana all include the space in "Bank Rakyat-Bangsar".--Joshua Talk to me What I've done? 16:08, 17 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Article upgrade assistance request (Pre-translation stage)

[edit]

Seasons Greetings,

This is in reference to a relatively new umbrella article on en-wikipedia named Ceremonial pole. Ceremonial pole is a human tradition since ancient times; either existed in past at some point of time, or still exists in some cultures across global continents from north to south & from east to west. Ceremonial poles are used to symbolize a variety of concepts in several different world cultures.

Through article Ceremonial pole we intend to take encyclopedic note of cultural aspects and festive celebrations around Ceremonial pole as an umbrella article and want to have historical, mythological, anthropological aspects, reverence or worships wherever concerned as a small part.

While Ceremonial poles have a long past and strong presence but usually less discussed subject. Even before we seek translation of this article in global languages, we need to have more encyclopedic information/input about Ceremonial poles from all global cultures and languages. And we seek your assistance in the same.

Since other contributors to the article are insisting for reliable sources and Standard native english; If your contributions get deleted (for some reason like linguistics or may be your information is reliable but unfortunately dosent match expectations of other editors) , please do list the same on Talk:Ceremonial pole page so that other wikipedians may help improve by interlanguage collaborations, and/or some other language wikipedias may be interested in giving more importance to reliablity of information over other factors on their respective wikipedia.

This particular request is being made to you since your user name is listed in Wikipedia:Translators available list.

Thanking you with warm regards Mahitgar (talk) 05:19, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited AH2, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Khosravi. Translation help?

[edit]

Hello,

I saw your name on the Chinese>English translators page, and I was wondering if you could help me with this. I have written an article on Ying'an Airlines and have been using Google Translate to translate and understand Chinese news articles about the airline. There is an important notice about this airline from the CAAC whose translation I can't fully understand. Could you please summarise it for me, particularly the reason why Ying'an Airlines lost its licence? The website is here. Thanks!! Sunnya343 (talk) 19:30, 17 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Request translation

[edit]

Hello Joshua. I would like to request a translation of an English article to Chinese. It is a short article and I have already translated it to Greek but I want it translated to more languages. Could you help me? Irene000 (talk) 10:14, 27 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Irene, you didn't say that which article you need help translating, based on your contributions I guess it's about Fabio Mancini? I am busy with real life at the moment, I would probably help if it's something that I am interested in, but it appears that it isn't the case here so I think I'll pass.--Joshua Talk to me What I've done? 14:39, 28 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Joshua. Could I ask you to have a look at the file File:Yin-Sheng Tang.jpeg.jpg and tell me what it is and what it's about? I gather it's a poster demanding clemency for 湯英伸 in his murder case. The uploader has claimed it as his or her own work, but I have some difficulty believing the uploader created this image; rather, I imagine that he or she simply created the scan of the image and has confused that with "own work". Anyway, what's your opinion? -- Rrburke (talk) 12:06, 9 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rrburke, you are right, it is a petition for clemency for 湯英伸, who was convicted for the murders of his employer, the employer's wife and daughter. Google Image search yields a result [1] stating that it was a full page ad printed on the 自立晚報 newspaper dated 12 May 1987. The image currently on Commons is a cropped version of the image as seen on the result page, and the Commons image has a watermark 國立臺灣大學法律學院 National Taiwan University College of Law. My guess is that the uploader found the image on the university's website and uploaded it to Commons.--Joshua Talk to me What I've done? 14:00, 9 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The "Mazu Cultural Palace" in Songjiang's Fangta Park, where you can get free soy milk and youtiao if you show up at the right times.

Since you were kind/foolish enough to have your name on this list, here's a note that I could use some help with the mess of Mazu temples in Shanghai. There were three; the first two were destroyed; the third got moved to Songjiang and rebuilt; and then as of 2014 Zhabei was considering rebuilding their old one. So:

If you have time and interest for any, some, or all of that, great and please leave a note here saying so. I'm asking all the listed Chinese translators for help, so we wouldn't want anyone needlessly duplicating work. — LlywelynII 02:42, 22 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Can you help verify translations of articles from Chinese

[edit]

Hello Joshua,

Would you be able to help evaluate the accuracy of translations of Wikipedia articles from Chinese to English Wikipedia?

File:Language icon.svg

This would involve evaluating a translated article on the English Wikipedia by comparing it to the original Chinese article, and marking it "Pass" or "Fail" based on whether the translation faithfully represents the original. Here's the reason for this request:

There are a number of articles on English Wikipedia that were created as machine translations from different languages including Chinese , using the Content Translation tool, sometimes by users with no knowledge of the source language. The config problem that allowed this to happen has since been fixed, but this has left us with a backlog of articles whose accuracy of translation is suspect or unknown, including some articles translated from Chinese. In many cases, other editors have come forward later to copyedit and fix any English grammar or style issues, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the translation is accurate, as factual errors from the original translation may remain. To put it another way: Good English is not the same as good translation.

If you can help out, that would be great. Here's a sample of the articles that need checking:

All you have to do, is compare the English article to the Chinese article, and mark it "Pass" or "Fail" (templates {{Pass}} and {{Fail}} may be useful). (Naturally, if you feel like fixing an inaccurate translation and then marking it "Pass", that's even better, but it isn't required.)

If you can help, please let me know. Thanks! Mathglot (talk) 21:58, 3 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Requesting translations for Chinese episode titles on Stitch & Ai

[edit]

Hello there. I would like to ask you could provide some translations for the Chinese titles of episodes for Stitch & Ai (安玲與史迪奇). While the list does show English episode titles, most of them are not direct translations of the Chinese titles, at least that's according to Google Translate. (The show is a Chinese animated series, but it was produced with the assistance of American animators and was originally produced in English. The show aired in Mandarin first, however.) If you could do so, please provide the translations under the RAltTitle parameters of the episode list entries on the article. Your help would be very much appreciated. Question

[edit]

Hi, I got your name from the list of translators. There is a new editor who is (or was - he's blocked now) struggling a great deal. I believe it is due to a language barrier. His user page mentions that he is from China. He has been posting {{help me}} requests on his talk page, but I don't think he knows how to use them. I told him I would try to find a Chinese translator to see if that would in any way help the situation. Would you be willing to go to his talk page and see if indeed language is the issue? (and if I have the right language) And if so, see if we can possibly help this person out? Here is the talk page: User talk:Andyccr1. If you can help, it would be appreciated. The Great Wall of China: Documentary

[edit]

TV Movie 2007, Discovery Channel, National Geographic. The protagonist is Qi Jiguang, an historical character. Geng Zhou, one of his soldiers, and Chang Ang, the Mongol military leader, are historical or fictional? If you don't know very well this documentary, you can see the full video (Part 1, Part 2). Their names can also be changed with other historical characters related with Qi Jiguang. In this site Geng Zhou is renamed Zhou Li. Geng Zhou was probably a fictional character, but in this documentary he is the second main protagonist after Qi Jiguang, then he could have an own page. You could also create the page about that documentary Behind the Great Wall. Please, can you help me, because I'm too busy? Thank you very much. --80.181.64.26 08:21, 18 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Translation help for 龍眼之本鬼病者?

[edit]

I found you from the list of translators, so I hope you can help me. I am working on Draft:Longan witches broom-associated virus and I have used google translate to get me most of the way, but it seems that the Chinese terms for the disease do not use the word 'witch'. The term I found is 龍眼之本鬼病者[1] Google lends me to believe that this term refer to ghosts and not witches, which seems plausible given the idiom 'witches broom' doesn't necessarily mean anything in China. I am hoping you can provide a good literal translation, and hopefully I can use it as a DYK hook for Halloween or something. Let me know if I'm close or not. Thanks! --Nessie (talk) 03:17, 21 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
