Hi Hahc21. I've pinged a couple editors for feedback on my draft SAS Institute page and since you did the GA review on SAS (software) I figured I also owed you an FYI ping. Like with any page that is very positive or very negative and also representative of the sources, I expect its neutrality to be contested, especially in the context of my COI. It may also not be clear how to avoid repetition between the two articles.

I don't think the SAS (software) page would be a good choice as my first FA candidate, especially because it is a technical subject where my comprehension is low. However, I'm thinking the Institute page may be a good candidate. It is shorter, has much better sources and I would be motivated to reassure the community that it is done correctly and the positivity is not merely a result of my COI. OTRS ticket in Spanish about English Wikipedia biography

[edit]

Hi Hahc,

I just came across a ticket in info-en (Quality) that is written in Spanish but about an English Wikipedia biography. This meant I needed to hunt down a fluent Spanish speaker who is based on/experienced with enwikipedia...you were the best person I could find! :) Would you have any objection to handling the ticket? I Google Translate-d it and it didn't seem like it'd take up too much of your time.

If you're able to handle it, just let me know and I'll lock the ticket to you in the system. Thanks in advance if you can, no stress if you aren't able to :)

MediaWiki:Common.css

[edit]

Hi Hahc21. :) About this edit - actually, it might well be the cause of whatever issue you saw. Unlike normal wiki pages, MediaWiki:Common.js and MediaWiki:Common.css are only read from the wiki pages by the MediaWiki servers every five minutes (for performance reasons, I assume). So even if that edit was the issue, the software would have never read your version as you reverted it too quickly. However, it's probably best to raise the issue on MediaWiki talk:Common.css rather than just reverting, as there may be a better fix for whatever issue you found. — Mr. Stradivarius ♪ talk ♪ 10:18, 1 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2014 April newsletter

[edit]

Round 3 of the 2014 WikiCup has just begun; 32 competitors remain. Pool G's Oh, better far to live and die / Under the brave black flag I fly... Adam Cuerden (submissions) was Round 2's highest scorer, with a large number of featured picture credits. In March/April, he restored star charts from Urania's Mirror, lithographs of various warships (such as SMS Gefion) and assorted other historical media. Second overall was Pool E's Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions), whose featured list Silver certificate (United States) contains dozens of scans of banknotes recently promoted to featured picture status. Third was Pool G's United States ChrisGualtieri (submissions) who has produced a large number of good articles, many, including Falkner Island, on Connecticut-related topics. Other successful participants included Rhodesia Cliftonian (submissions), who saw three articles (including the top-importance Ian Smith) through featured article candidacies, and Washington, D.C. Caponer (submissions), who saw three lists (including the beautifully-illustrated list of plantations in West Virginia) through featured list candidacies. High-importance good articles promoted this round include narwhal from Canada Reid, iain james (submissions), tiger from Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions) and The Lion King from Minas Gerais Igordebraga (submissions). We also saw our first featured topic points of the competition, awarded to Nepal Czar (submissions) and Indiana Red Phoenix (submissions) for their work on the Sega Genesis topic. No points have been claimed so far for good topics or featured portals.

192 was our lowest qualifying score, again showing that this WikiCup is the most competitive ever. In previous years, 123 (2013), 65 (2012), 41 (2011) or 100 (2010) secured a place in Round 3. Pool H was the strongest performer, with all but one of its members advancing, while only the two highest scorers in Pools G and F advanced. At the end of June, 16 users will advance into the semi-finals. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Hi buddy

Article about Mr.V was deleted. ( http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Vladimir_Djordjevic_(martial_artist) ) Vladimir Djordjevic is one of the greatest law enforcement chief instructor and 5 time united states martial arts hall of fame nominee. I don't know why would anyone point this kind of page to be deleted. As you know I am not familiar with all Wikipedia rules but I am one of the guys who study, practice and write about martial arts. About Mr.V reputation we can talk all day long and support it in writing if needed from newspapers, internet, tv, etc. (Aikido[1], Aiki Web[2], Martial Arts[3], Combat[4], Combat Martial Arts[5]) Can you please put Mr.V page back and let me know how can I assist you in making all terms and conditions right if we did anything wrong.

Odbrana is tactical system with over 10000 members and more than 100000 followers worldwide. Odbrana page ( http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Odbrana_(tactical_defense_system) ) is deleted by you. I am not familiar with all Wikipedia rules but I am one of the guys who study, practice and write about martial arts. Personally I admire Odbrana, Krav Maga and Systema, sense they are the only combat self defense systems around the world. Some of the Odbrana members started Odbrana page year ago and I took some part of editing as well. Probably we need some guidance from you in order to meet some of the Wikipedia terms and conditions sense there is no questions about paid editing, false marketing etc. Can you please put Odbrana page back and let me know how can I make all terms and conditions right.

Hi, sorry I was quite busy and didn't pay attention to my talk page. These pages were deleted after a community discussion that deemed them not notable in Wikipedia's terms. Every topic needs to meet the General notability guideline before they cna have an article on Wikipedia. A discussion, which you can see here, ended up with consensus that these topics were not nobtable by now, and so I can't recreate the articles single-handedly. It goes against our rules. What you can do is provide reliable third-party sources discussing these topics so that notability can be proven. Cheers. → Call me Hahc21 02:26, 8 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I wonder if you can help? Tonight, I discovered a just-established category called "Disco music genres" - http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Category:Disco_music_genres - and I am very concerned about it as this new category appears to have been based on the thoughts and feelings of one editor and not on any reliable sourcing. Whilst disco music is the product of several other forms of popular music and one of the stylistic origins of several others proceeding it, we already have the "post-disco" category, and to list electronic dance genres such as house as "disco music genres" is not something I have ever found before in all my long experience of research into popular music. I am concerned about this new category, I believe it is misleading, and I would be glad if you would look into this matter. I have posted some of my concerns on the category's talk page, but I have some experience of the editor who created the page and have actually felt quite worried by some of their responses to myself and other editors in the past. I would be glad if you or one of the other admins would look at the page and decide whether it actually fits Wikipedia guidelines or not. Many thanks.

UPDATE: I have removed house music and New Wave from the "Disco music genres" category, although the editor may simply reinstate them. I have checked their "stylistic origins" and both have rather more than simply disco music. I have left hip-hop and post-disco, although hip hop is recognized as a popular music genre in itself and to list "post-disco" as a "disco music genre" seems rather odd to me as it is "post-". I am very sorry to trouble you with all this, but the editor concerned, ItsAlwaysLupus, is somebody I have found great difficulty in communicating with in the past, and yet the sudden creation of a whole new popular music category concerns me so much I really don't think Wikipedia admins should be left unaware of it.

Por eso pido que se tome esto en cuenta, lo único que hace es ignorar los mensajes que se les deja, y yo no pienso seguir dejandoles mensajes. Hahc21, I would like to take this moment and thank you for the trust you had placed in me and for your support in my RfA that happened a while ago. Although it didn't turn out as I had planned, I certainly appreciated all the comments and suggestions given by you and other people. GitLab deletion

[edit]

Hi Hahc21,

I would like to undo the deletion of the GitLab page in http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/GitLab http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Wikipedia:Deletion_review says that this can be done when "if significant new information has come to light since a deletion that would justify recreating the deleted page; " I hope that an article on the homepage of The Next Web qualifies as such: http://thenextweb.com/insider/2014/06/04/github-rival-gitlab-building-business-just-0-1-paying-customers/ http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Wikipedia:Deletion_review states that before listing a review request, I should discuss the matter with the closing administrator I saw that on the user talk page of Mark Arsten that he is unavailable and you can maybe help. Please let me know what I should do, I've never done this before, I tried to read all the documentation, I hope this action is OK.

GA review

[edit]

Hello Hahc21, I noticed that you are listed at the GA Help Desk as a GA mentor who is interested in video game articles and referencing issues. I'm conducting my first GA review, which is of the article PETA satirical browser games, and if you have some time, I was wondering if you could take a quick look at my review at Talk:PETA satirical browser games/GA1. It's a small article and a brief review, but I'm looking for a second opinion on whether a couple of the sources are reliable, and I'd appreciate any feedback of the review generally as well. Thanks! –Prototime (talk · contribs) 03:18, 1 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Hahc21,

per Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Lead section (MOS:LEAD), the lead section should serve "as an introduction to the article and a summary of its most important aspects", provide a "concise overview". It should have an appropriate length, depending on the length of the total article. In your version, the lead section occupies about a third of the article. It is absolutely disproportionate. It contains very detailed information that does not belong to the "most important aspects" of who Capriles is. If you cannot accept this view and disagree, I would like to ask you to please take this issue to the article's talk page instead of reverting to your version again and again.

Kind regards, --RJFF (talk) 11:00, 8 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, as a rule of thumb (WP:LEADLENGTH) an article with less than 15,000 characters of prose should have a lead section of only one or two paragraphs. This article has about 10,000 characters. --RJFF (talk) 11:04, 8 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@RJFF: You know, when I work on an article, I have tho methods: from top to bottom, or from bottom to top. When you reverted me the first time, I was mid-way on my work with that article. I crafted the lead to resemble what the article length would be when I was done. However, you unilaterally came and interrupted my work. I am aware of all these guidelines (been here for 6 years now), but as I said, it was a work in progress. You didn't care to notice that there was a template a bit below saying that a Wikipedian was working on the article, do you? Anyways, I have lost interest in the article and won't revert you further. Every time I have a desire to improve articles about politics, someone comes and washes my efforts so I won't care anymore. Cheers. → Call me Hahc21 17:24, 8 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't mean to annoy or disgruntle you and I am sorry if I did so. As an experienced user, you could have given a short explanation in the edit summary to avoid misunderstanding. I tried to make my reverts understandable, but you re-reverted without making your position clear. Again: I am sorry for this misunderstanding. But I think that even if the article were considerably longer, the intro you proposed would still be too long. It is in no way a "concise overview" of the subject. If someone who has no idea of who Capriles is wants to get some basic information, they do not need to know all these details. Someone who wants to get detailed information can read the respective section of the article's body. Again: I didn't mean to offend you or to put you off. I would be happy if you could overcome your understandable indignation and continue your work on the article. Kind regards, --RJFF (talk) 13:25, 10 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It's okay. I might work on it later, I'm short of time right now :) → Call me Hahc21 17:52, 10 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Murder of Jessica Currin -- Could I have a copy of the deleted article?

[edit]

I was the creator of article "Murder of Jessica Currin" which you nominated for deletion and deleted.

Could you provide me with a copy of that article?

Thanks.

Contact Basemetal here 17:45, 10 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

BTW, isn't it customary that the creator of an article be notified if that article is nominated for deletion so that they can take part in the discussion and vote?

No. Prehaps they should invest in a watchlist of some design. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 18:28, 10 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Basemetal I can provide you with a copy, yes, as long as you are aware that you cannot recreate the article unless it has been significantly improved notability-wise. Else it will end up at AfD again. However, I didn't nominate it for deletion. It was Lugnuts. I just happen to be the closing administrator. → Call me Hahc21 17:49, 10 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
