OK TO THE DELETION
[edit]no prob. David Betesh
What's new?
[edit]... oh, hitting "reload" on Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Crzrussian 2 to see if somebody accepted yet, before which I'm apparently not supposed to comment. :-) Also watching Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Giano with bated breath - the principles and findings of fact are easy, but what can the arbcom actually going to do about it?
Real editing that I really should be doing instead: La Merika (slippery slope from AfD), Jenna Jameson (one of the rare WP:P* that could actually get to WP:FA with more work), more grammar tweaks on Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Buffy the Vampire Slayer which I stumbled on when researching how FA really works, Wikipedia:Danny's contest which seems interesting (Pyramid and Tower seem Wikipedia: Vital articles ripe for major expansion)...
And you? AnonEMouse (squeak) 18:47, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
- Hey, don't knock Jenna. :-). That's a regularly vandalized article, and my work doesn't even show up on the first few pages of edit history, but it's there - look at the references: New York Times, Forbes, CNN, Rolling Stone... that's solid stuff. However I somehow haven't gotten around to it for over a month. I think what someone wrote somewhere is true, that it's harder to work on large articles than small ones, possibly because of the small editing window. Or maybe I'm just lazy. :-) AnonEMouse (squeak) 20:18, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
- BTW, I notice most of your few RFA "oppose"s are about your occasional loss of temper and combativeness. Do you think losing your temper and combating them more is a good idea? :-) AnonEMouse (squeak) 15:22, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
Comment about Whitstone school

I made the thing in Open Office, so not surprisingly MS Office won't accept it. I had prepared a bit on User:Blnguyen/Stats/del when it was made, but I didn't have the deletes/day ratio there. Kimchi.sg was one of the biggest, he has done 20k+ in three months. In the office spreadsheet, I also had a "delete rate: net support vote" ratio, to see which admins were the most undervvalued and which were most overrated. "Net support = support -3*oppose". I think Jaranda was close to being the most undervalued, as he did heaps of deletes and barely passes, whilst Kukini and Natalya were at the other far end of the scale. I'll convert it soon hopefully. Regards, Blnguyen | BLabberiNg 01:48, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

I am pretty sure this is not vandalism. - CrazyRussian talk/email 21:20, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
- Huh? Are you sure you are reporting the right edit? In this edit, 201.141.48.163 inserts his/her signature right in the middle of the article. Wasn't that supposed to be reverted?--Húsönd 22:03, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
- Oh now I see, there was some further content that I didn't notice. I'll restore that part. Thanks for noticing.--Húsönd 22:08, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
New RfA
[edit]Hi. per your RfA#2, you'll see I'm a "strong support"er. I fervently believe that you were (and will be) a great admin. To offer just a little constructive criticism, though, you might want to be a little less terse. This accounts for (i think) a majority of the oppose !votes on the RfA. I was also slightly miffed by this. Again, this is just a small suggestion from a person that believes in your re-sysoping. Cheers! Storkk 02:29, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- Note: "miffed" only by its sheer terseness, not the actual content. --Storkk 02:30, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
Ask the 6?
[edit]How do you feel about asking the 6 users who asked for recall to comment? Frankly, I thought they would be among the first to say something, but so far, only one has weighed in. AnonEMouse (squeak) 17:17, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Crzrussian, Well I got to know that I deleted something. Though I did not get it clearly what it is,I am really sorry for that. I would love to do something good. DYK
[edit]Not quite yet on Eddie's Bar...but almost. I usually select articles with >1500 characters (though WP:DYK says 1000 is the minimum) that have a reference (preferably in-line) to at least the fact mentioned on the main page (and usually in-line references to many of the stated facts). After your RfA is over, you should try your hand at updating -- it's quite fun (although a bit tedious). I'm on a bit of a DYK hiatus myself as I got a little angered by some punk kid admin who tried to strongarm his way on DYK -- Samir धर्म 02:35, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
RfA
[edit]If you have been at wikipedia for some time, expect some resistance with a RfA. I have my motivation to object seriously against you being an admin. I voice that. That is my right. Your first response is Vote smells like serious politics. Excuse me? What do you expect from such a remark? Then you just continue from there by questioning my motives, ect etc etc. Effectively, you have been confirming my objections post after post since then. You yourself state in another response that you respond forcefully, and that you do not see a problem with it, however, at the same time, you have a problem with it when other people respond forcefully. -- Kim van der Linde at venus 04:33, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit]I guess I shouldn't expect to, being in the process of taking two college prep (and hopefully college credit) pre-law classes, while I hear (a little birdie told me) you've got your post-grad degree. :P I'm only half Estonian anyway.
I must say that I wasn't precisely anticipating that you were Jewish... that would have made my "ethnicity" argument a bit stronger.
Good luck with the RFA; I'm rooting for you! :)

[edit]After Eid, shall we go for Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Joturner 3? - CrazyRussian talk/email 03:17, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
- Hey, I'd be up for it (although perhaps Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Tariqabjotu 2 would be a better location). Yanksox and Aguerriero both offered to nominate me back in August, but I said I'd hold off. And Kingboyk said he'd nominate me if I ask him in November. So, I think that meets the two-admin threshold I mentioned on User:Tariqabjotu/Rationale. -- tariqabjotu 03:25, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Whoops, I've updated my standards. —Malber (talk • contribs) 19:41, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
RfA, etc.
[edit]The Yankees kept Torre, so you'll not have to transfer your allegiance to the Devil Rays (who, IIRC, may in 2008 be styled as the Rays); of course, in a few years, Tampa Bay may displace the Yankees atop the division, so perhaps you'll have to hop on their bandwagon (although they've really disappointed me by getting rid of some prime talent this year). In any event, I thought I should drop you a note to let you know that I voted (RfA is not a vote, voting is evil, etc.) regretful neutral on your RfA, for reasons I set out there in great, great length. I hope that you'll not thence infer any malice—I remain a fan of yours—but I understand that you might construe my comments as less-than-amicable, at least insofar as I suggest that certain qualities the presence of which in a prospective admin is auspicious aren't as grand in you as once I thought them to be (of course, you're almost surely more greatly possessed of those qualities than I), and so it's nothing personal may ring hollow. As I conclude in my vote, though, I am relatively sure that you'll continue, as an admin, to do the fine work you previously did, and I expect also that you'll be a bit more circumspect as regards acting in areas in which from actions controversy might ensue. That sounds haughty, I suppose; who in the hell am I to pronounce as to how you ought to act? I mean only to convey, I guess, that I still think as highly of you as ever I did and that my neutral was, well, nothing personal. Joe 20:05, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

Blood libel
[edit]Crzrussian, I am sure you deal with all kinds of abuse here. And I am sure that sometimes you get frustrated and lose your cool. But I can assure you that 'escalating the stupidity' is not a solution, by a longshot. I am not suspecting you of POV or racism - that's not my point. WP is an open book - anyone anywhere can read it. What seems like a joke to you, may not to many others reading it. There is a reason for WP:CIVIL - it is not just something your mother or teacher told you, and you can forget when you hit the street. Adhering to WP:CIVIL at all times, and especially when you are stressed and upset, will help you, will help WP, and will help diffuse or resolve the situation in a better way than by 'escalating the stupidity'. Not that I am perfect myself - far from it, I have many faults, and I am not preaching to you. I am just giving you what I think is sound advice. I know you have a good core in you, try to let that part control, even when the going gets rough. Crum375 02:11, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
- I am sorry that you still don't seem to get the point. It's not a 'rhetorical device'. It's an ugly and vicious racial slur. Now to you it may seem like a joke, but I think that's the part you really need to work on. Though you may think the other side 'gets' the joke and laughs with you, the hurt is still there, perhaps under the surface. And as I mentioned above, there is also the whole world looking in through our glass walls, and they don't all 'get' the joke. Being offensive, even as a 'joke', for whatever reason, is never a solution here. And yes, IMO anyone using this type of vile and ugly language should be banned for a long time, long enough for him/her reflect on their actions and hopefully get the point. Peter Jones (Waste management)
[edit]Hi Crzrussian
I note you requested my article on Peter Jones (waste management) be considered for deletion. I am working on improving the Category:Waste management in wikipedia. I am not into promotion of this man in any way but I can assure you he is of notability in the UK waste management industry. He has had television appearances, he sits on government advisory bodies and is extremely well known in the industry. A Google search reveals 55,000 links to him and I have slimed down the search results to take into account his more common name [ http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=%22peter+jones%22+waste&btnG=Search&meta=].--Alex 13:53, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

Fibonacci number(s) move
[edit]I agree that Fibonacci numbers makes more sense as a title, especially since most of the links to 'Fibonacci number' are formatted to display as the plural. However, I don't think that I would ever characterize moving a page as a minor edit. Also, since there are already so many links to the old name of the page, don't you think that you should edit the links to point to the current location, to avoid having the redirect page invoked every time anyone clicks on a link? Finell (Talk) 16:21, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for replying so instantly.
- If you don't know how your edit was marked as minor, it is probably because you set your Preferences to mark edits as minor as a default (which is a dangerous default, unless practically all of your edits are minor copy edits, which is unlikely). Otherwise, you must have checked the "This is a minor edit" check box that appears below every Edit box, right below the Edit summary. That check box is followed by a link to what's this? that explains its correct usage, which you may wish to look at. As an Admin, aren't you supposed to know stuff like this?
- Regarding my main point, which you did not answer, are you going to clean up after yourself by fixing all the links to 'Fibonacci number'?
re: What's new..
[edit]Not much. I've been spending time in RFD and doing some clean-up. I haven't gotten to Shortpages much lately, but when I have, I've been working on the bottom of the list. I have found that many dab pages are missing entries so I have been checking those on Shortpages for entries to add. Have you seen this page?

WET
[edit]Question -- why did you delete WET -- the Watir Extension Toolkit? Because it is a valid extension to Watir. -- SunSw0rd 18:23, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
Watir Extension Toolkit
[edit]Looks to me like maybe another user came in and made edits that caused a perception that this is spam. However, the Watir Extension Toolkit (WET) is in fact open source software -- it is, in fact, what is known as a Ruby gem (a library.) Since it is open source, I don't think this can be considered spam. If spam is defined as: "Pages that exist only to promote a company, product, or service" -- then I would argue that WET cannot be considered to be spam. It is open source licensed, anyone can download it, and people using web application testing using the Ruby language (open source) and WATIR (Web Application Testing In Ruby) might want to use WET.
Now that other user may have been playing up "Thwameva" -- which is a company (apparently in India) that does provide paid support to corporate users. Whether their business model is valid or not is open to debate, but I don't think they are different than Red Hat in that regard (who provides Linux for free but charges for support.) In any case, I didn't create a listing on Thwameva, but on Watir Extension Toolkit -- a Ruby library -- and I think, not spam. -- SunSw0rd 18:41, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
