Notice

The article Neemat Daud Abdulrahim has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Does not appear to pass WP:GNG. First three sources in the article are self-published websites so not reliable, fourth source is a passing mention so not significant coverage, fifth source is the homepage of a website with no linked article, sixth source is a paper she wrote so not independent. WP:BEFORE not turning up additional sources.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. –Novem Linguae (talk) 10:45, 12 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Gabriel Agbonlahor

[edit]

Hi. Thanks for adding sources to the Gabriel Agbonlahor article. Unfortunately, all of the changes you made had issues:

  • first change: the source (BBC) is good, but it does not support the claim that it was the player's first goal of the season,
  • second change: same good source, but, again, it does not support the claims made,
  • third change: Agbonlahor's Soccerway profile is used, a decent source. However, it does not support the claims – Soccerway does not record assists,
  • fourth change: Soccerway profile, does not support the claims. "Honour" was the correct British spelling,
  • fifth change: Soccerway profile, does not support the claims.

I reverted the addition of the Soccerway references and corrected the use of the BBC one. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 18:04, 30 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Benita Iyere Okogie moved to draftspace

Draftifying on the suspicion of conflict on interest editing. Please pass through WP:AFC

Undisclosed paid editing warning

[edit]
Information icon

Hello Atibrarian. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to Benita Iyere Okogie, gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Atibrarian. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Atibrarian|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Celestina007 (talk) 22:51, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, you are tagging me as a "paid Advocate" which I am not. I am not in any way related to or known the subject in person. I am only interested in improving or creating new articles relating to Edo State and her people. Atibrarian (talk) 00:12, 10 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please explain the UPE concerns

[edit]

As outlined in the template you aren’t allowed to move the page back to mainspace until you have discussed this, it is disruptive and counter productive. Ah! I see Mattythewhite already has spoken to you about disruptive editing in the past. Now pertaining to UPE, please explain this to me, how is that in your first article created this one you are competent and are familiar with our wiki markup but in your most recent article Draft:Benita Iyere Okogie you are making “NEWBIE” errors? like emboldening section headings? Please can you kindly explain this to me Celestina007 (talk) 22:59, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If it appears my new article: Benita Iyere Okogie, reflects that of a "NEWBIE". However, I am still a "NEWBIE" because I am still learning the robe of Wikipedia editing. The "emboldened heading" was a result of me typing the article in Microsoft Word before moving it to Wikipedia editor.

Mattythewhite claims are not "concrete" as the references used are accurate and reliable. I would have responded to his observations but I am not that a PRO - to respond with appropriate tags/referencing - so I just let go. I know how straining it is for me in creating these articles.

Over the past year, I have learned from errors I make while editing or creating an article. I am scared of making mistakes.

Warm Regards

Atibrarian (talk) 00:31, 10 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Atibrarian, The "emboldened heading" was a result of me typing the article in Microsoft Word before moving it to Wikipedia editor how so? Our markup is our markup and using Microsoft word doesn’t invalidate that. However why have you move warred rather than pass the article through AFC? as advised? How also are you in possession of this file as your own work and haven’t declared a COI? Celestina007 (talk) 00:50, 10 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The file might reflect as my "own" not because I owned it but because I mistakenly not use the appropriate tag - "NEWBIE" Atibrarian (talk) 01:32, 10 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
So how then did you get the file? Celestina007 (talk) 06:57, 10 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Thanks for contributing to the article Auchi. However, one of Wikipedia's core policies is that material must be verifiable and attributed to reliable sources. You have recently used citations which copied, or mirrored, material from Wikipedia. This leads to a circular reference and is not acceptable. Thanks for your kind words. Observations noted, I will, going forward. Atibrarian (talk) 15:23, 11 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This addition is a site that randomly scrapes other sites, including Wikipedia. I'm not clear on how you evaluated this as a reliable source.
After acknowledging the warning on your talk page about mirrors, your very next edit, seven minutes later, was to add another link to a mirror which clearly attributes Wikipedia and links back to that exact article.
I'm really worried about this one. Here you added a link to "info.org", which does not work. I can see in the spam blacklist log that you attempted to add a link to "google-info.org", which is a blacklisted mirror. It looks like you hit the blacklist, then added the junk ref anyway by fudging the URL. That's not super-ethical, and it was followed-up by a large copyright violation.
Please consider this a final warning. If you're not going to try to abide by our policies, then this account will be disabled. Kuru (talk) 01:55, 12 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Control copyright icon Hello Atibrarian! Your additions to Igbabonelimhin have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. DanCherek (talk) 19:20, 11 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Fabian Okoro moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Fabian Okoro, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Please if this comes off as condescending to you, please it is not my intention, I suggest using the afc method because you learn a lot from AFC's especially when interacting with afc editors. Per previous warnings and blocks, do not add material that is clearly sourced to Wikipedia as a reference. You've done so again here and here. Kuru (talk) 15:39, 18 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It's never intentional. I think a blacklist of such sites will be of help.

I think "art and culture" will stick for while as blacklisted site in my head. Atibrarian (talk) 22:35, 18 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

In that first link, you literally reverted back in the link I clearly identified as a mirror a few hours earlier. Again, please be very careful with your future edits. Kuru (talk) 03:12, 19 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, I will. Thanks. Atibrarian (talk) 04:31, 20 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Wikipedia:Better Education Server Delivery for All requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a recently created redirect from an implausible typo or misnomer, or other unlikely search term.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Apologies Regarding ANI Incident

[edit]

Whilst my opinion about your probable COI editing remains unchanged due to incidents such as this, your outright refusal to answer this, this & a plethora of other concerns on your TP, I want to expressly apologize to you about wrongly assuming the $2000 was a reward price instead of the grant & more-so, It wasn’t nice of me to say the article creations were financially motivated, I mistook the grant to mean cash prize, im sorry, although if I’m not mistaken Nil does say there does seem to be some incentive for creating the article financially or otherwise I really can’t tell because I recused myself from that conversation or any form of discussion that disturbs my peace of mind, I am extremely sick, I am hypertensive and my blood pressure as of 20 minutes ago read 145/109 which anyone with a medical background knows I shouldn’t be doing anything but resting so that’s that for that. Celestina007 (talk) 23:00, 30 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I empathize with you at this time with your health challenges.
Don't stress yourself with many engagements, and/or engage yourself in anything that can give you unnecessary palpitations.
You will agree with me that at this juncture you do need a break to focus more on your health and proper medical assistance.
Going forward, you are completely misrepresenting my good intentions in this space, there are no COIs and I am not involved in paid editing. Those instances of not responding was a result of your outright rejection of my explanation when you accused me of being UPE here as your mind seems made-up.
My journey here started with my participation in the maiden edition of the African Librarians Week and subsequent editions. In June of 2021, I enrolled WikiAfLibs Cohort 2 an adaptation of the OCLC Libraries + Wikipedia Better Together curriculum meant to equip African librarians with the requisite skills to edit and create content on Wikipedia and sister projects.
Part of the requirements for successful completion was to draft a community outreach project to impact others with skills acquired which the ongoing editathon is the end product of the draft - training people on how to create/ edit articles on Wikipedia. ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:47, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Event coordinator granted

[edit]

After reviewing your request for the "eventcoordinator" permission, I have temporarily enabled the flag on your account until 2023-03-01. Keep in mind these things:

  • The event coordinator right removes the limit on the maximum number of new accounts that can be created in a 24-hour period.
  • The event coordinator right allows you to temporarily add the "confirmed" permission to newly created accounts. You should not grant this for more than 10 days.
  • The event coordinator right is not a status symbol. If it remains unused, it is likely to be removed. Abuse of the event coordinator right will result in its removal by an administrator.
  • Please note, if you were previously a member of the "account creator" group, your flag may have been converted to this new group.

If you no longer require the right, let me know, or ask any other administrator. Drop a note on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of the event coordinator right. Happy editing! Salvio giuliano 17:09, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. A tag has been placed on User:Ali Adamu requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section U5 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to consist of writings, information, discussions, or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals. Please note that Wikipedia is not a free web hosting service. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time.

What caused you to write about Susovan Sonu Roy? GeneralNotability (talk) 19:46, 5 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi User:GeneralNotability!
I trust you are doing great. I occasionally visit the request page and other WikiProjects pages to create articles. Nothing from the ordinary other than seeing the subject on the requested article list. I discovered later that I made a mistake on the subject name which was disappointing and discouraging on my part.
Other engagements off Wiki kind of made me oblivious of the draft until another editor made some edits to it and subsequently, your inquiry made me do a deep search on the subject revealing that there have been attempts to create the article leading to spamming, socks, and investigations on different occasions.
My attempt is not in any way related and I will be requesting its deletion ASAP going by the previously generated issues.
Kind regards. Atibrarian (talk) 16:00, 6 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

January 2024

[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Suntooooth. I noticed that you have been adding short descriptions to articles. However, the short descriptions you added are too long to be effective, such as at Taiwanese television drama. The guideline is that short descriptions should ideally be under 40 characters long, and no longer than needed. For more information, see the short description guidelines. If you have any questions, please let me know. This includes importing Wikidata descriptions that are long, since Wikidata descriptions aren't always suitable for Wikipedia. Suntooooth, it/he (talk/contribs) 17:12, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, @Suntooooth!
Thanks for the notice. I will try give a more concise short description to imports from Wikidata. Regards. Atibrarian (talk) 23:14, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2024 February newsletter

[edit]

The 2024 WikiCup is off to a flying start, with 135 participants. This is the largest number of participants we have seen since 2017.

Our current leader is newcomer Generalissima (submissions), who has one FA on John Littlejohn (preacher) and 10 GAs and 12 DYKs mostly on New Zealand coinage and Inuit figures. Here are some more noteworthy scorers:

As a reminder, competitors may submit work for the first round until 23:59 (UTC) on 27 February, and the second round starts 1 March. Remember that only the top 64 scoring competitors will make it through to the second round; currently, competitors need at least 15 points to progress. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAN, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges (Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs), Epicgenius (talk · contribs), and Frostly (talk · contribs)) are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. WikiCup 2024 March newsletter

[edit]

The first round of the 2024 WikiCup ended at 23:59 (UTC) on 27 February. Everyone with at least 30 points moved on to Round 2, the highest number of points required to advance to the second round since 2014. Due to a six-way tie for the 64th-place spot, 67 contestants have qualified for Round 2.

The following scorers in Round 1 all scored more than 300 points:

In this newsletter, the judges would like to pay a special tribute to Vami_IV (submissions), who unfortunately passed away this February. At the time of his death, he was the second-highest-scoring competitor. Outside the WikiCup, he had eight other featured articles, five A-class articles, eight other good articles, and two Four Awards. Vami also wrote an essay on completionism, a philosophy in which he deeply believed. If you can, please join us in honoring his memory by improving one of the articles on his to-do list.

Remember that any content promoted after 27 February but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! WikiCup 2024 November newsletter

[edit]

The 2024 WikiCup has come to an end, with the final round being a very tight race. Our new champion is AirshipJungleman29 (submissions), who scored 2,283 points mainly through 3 high-multiplier FAs and 3 GAs on military history topics. By a 1% margin, Airship beat out last year's champion, Delaware BeanieFan11 (submissions), who scored second with 2,264 points, mainly from an impressive 58 GAs about athletes. In third place, Generalissima (submissions) scored 1,528 points, primarily from two FAs on U.S. Librarians of Congress and 20 GAs about various historical topics. Our other finalists are: Sammi Brie (submissions) with 879 points, Canada Hey man im josh (submissions) with 533 points, BennyOnTheLoose (submissions) with 432 points, Arconning (submissions) with 244 points, and Christmas Island AryKun (submissions) with 15 points. Congratulations to our finalists and all who participated!

The final round was very productive, and contestants had 7 FAs, 9 FLs, 94 GAs, 73 FAC reviews, and 79 GAN reviews and peer reviews. Altogether, Wikipedia has benefited greatly from the activities of WikiCup competitors all through the contest. Well done everyone!

All those who reached the final will receive awards and the following special awards will be made, based on high performance in particular areas of content creation. So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, these prizes are awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round, or in the event of a tie, to the overall leader in this field.

Next year's competition will begin on 1 January. You are invited to sign up to participate; the WikiCup is open to all Wikipedians, both novices and experienced editors, and we hope to see you all in the 2025 competition. Until then, it only remains to once again congratulate our worthy winners, and thank all participants for their involvement!
