I'm from Cairo, Egypt, currently residing in Berlin.

I first saw Wikipedia in 2001 probably via Slashdot. Naturally I was fascinated. I began to regularly contribute to both the English and Arabic editions of Wikipedia since 2003. Around the time I started blogging.

I'm a proponent of free culture and open knowledge, and interested to learn about, and use the tools and techniques of linked data. I've been using free software exclusively since 2006

Currently, I focus on working with groups of people who are interested in specific domains of knowledge to develop communities around wikis where knowledge in those fields are curated, organised, produced and made freely available, in Arabic.

I build wikis utilising Semantic Mediawiki, and an overhauled Arabic localisation of MW and several of its extensions that I maintain.
