USS Kearsarge
Appearance
USS Kearsarge has been the name of four commissioned ships of the United States Navy (and another ship that was renamed during construction). The first was named for Mount Kearsarge in New Hampshire; the later ones were named in honor of the first. Ship 11 at Naval Station Great Lakes Recruit Training Command is also named Kearsarge in honor of the first ship.
- The first USS Kearsarge (1861), a sloop of war, fought one of the American Civil War's most memorable naval actions.
- The second USS Kearsarge (BB-5) sailed with the Great White Fleet.
- The USS Hornet (CV-12), an Essex-class aircraft carrier, was briefly named Kearsarge before she was launched.
- The third USS Kearsarge (CV-33), a long-hulled Essex-class (also known as Ticonderoga-class) aircraft carrier, served in the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
- The fourth USS Kearsarge (LHD-3), a Wasp-class amphibious assault ship, was commissioned in 1993 and remains Template:Ship fate box active in service
