Christina "Tina" Malone (born 30 January 1963) is an English actress, writer, director, and producer, best known for playing Mimi Maguire in the Channel 4 series Shameless. She also played Mo McGee in Brookside. She made a reality appearance in Celebrity Big Brother 6 in January 2009.
Early life
Malone was born on 30 January 1963[1] in Toxteth, Liverpool,[2][3] the daughter of Olwyn and Frank Malone. She attended Liverpool Institute High School for Girls and Childwall College.
Career
Malone played Mo McGee in Brookside from 1993 until 1998. Malone’s best known role is playing Mimi Maguire on Shameless from 2005 until 2013. Other television roles include playing a nurse called Bobbie in Victoria Wood's Dinnerladies.
On 2 January 2009, Malone entered the Celebrity Big Brother house. She was the seventh person to enter and was immediately picked up on her loudness. On 16 January, Malone was the second person to be evicted from the Celebrity Big Brother House.[4]
From 8–11 September 2009, Malone directed and starred in Kerry Williams' play MeeT ThE DeAN's at the Unity Theatre, Liverpool.[5]
In 2013, Malone appeared on The Chase Celebrity Special (series 3, episode 3). She and the other members of the team, including Hilary Jones and Charlotte Jackson, defeated "The Chaser", Paul "The Sinnerman" Sinha, and won £100,000 for charity, £8,000 of which she accrued personally.
Personal life
Malone runs her own acting school, To Be Frank Productions, in Manchester, where she lives. The school produces plays in local Liverpool theatres such as the Everyman Theatre. The drama school is named after her late father, Frank Malone. She also used to run an agency with Dean Sullivan called DSTM. Malone has stated that she suffers from OCD and is bipolar.[6][7]
In May 2012 Malone was declared bankrupt.[8][9]
In December 2017, Malone was sacked from a Christmas panto after it emerged that she was under the influence of cocaine whilst performing.
Relationships
In August 2009, Malone appeared on a BBC Three programme called Britain's Most Embarrassing Parents, with her daughter Dannielle (born 1982).[citation needed] Malone married Paul Chase on 29 August 2010.[10] He is 19 years younger than her. Malone appeared on Celebrity Four Weddings in December 2010, which she won.[10][11] She also appeared in Scousers in St Helens on 26 October 2010.
On 16 May 2013, Malone and Chase announced that she was pregnant at the age of 50 on ITV's This Morning.[citation needed] Her daughter, Flame, was born on 15 December 2013.[citation needed] The name came about whilst Malone was watching TV; a news report was on regarding Flame Brewer, a nine-year-old wing-walker who, in August 2013, became the world's youngest formation wing-walker along with her cousin, Rose Powell, also aged nine.[12]
