[edit]Is the Marquise a Frenchwoman? Otherwise I'm confused as to why her father would be fighting Russians in Northern Italy, since the only time that happened was in 1799, and they were fighting the French. john k 00:16, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
- The story is set in Italy. --137.146.141.96 03:20, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
This story was supposedly an adaptation of an actual incident...Kleist changed the setting and the names to protect the innocent. 198.151.180.252 05:25, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
I thought the Marquise and her parents were Italian. Why von Kleist gave her a French title, rather than a German or Italian one, I do not know. Would it have come from her first husband? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.144.57.0 (talk) 17:57, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
regardless of changing the name to protect the innocent, it still needs wikistructure, improved footnoting, and sundry info boxes. Auntieruth55 (talk) 00:31, 26 September 2009 (UTC)
- changed my mind, it's start class, because it is a start. Needs structure, some info about Kleist, context of the story, do we know why he wrote it? How was it received? Where does it fit in the constellation of literature? What did other writers think? Is it one of those instructional stories for young women, about how to behave? You could also clean up the text, it's very repetitive, reuses words several times in several sentences several times.....if you catch my meaning here. Otherwise, good start, just keep going on it. “monster” = ("Lasterhaften")?
[edit]"Lasterhafter" literally would be a "vicefull one", monster seems a little harsh in this context. 91.39.107.76 (talk) 12:55, 21 August 2012 (UTC)
