Ambiguous title
[edit]The title of this article is ambiguous as it could refer to either "Jorge del Carmen Valenzuela Torres" or the literal English translation of the Spanish language film titled El Chacal de Nahueltoro. The naming conventions about use of the definite article in a title indicates that this article should be about the film since the English translation of El Chacal de Nahueltoro is The Jackal of Nahueltoro. Research, in Spanish,[Research 1] indicates the label [the] Jackal of Nahueltoro was essentially a media construct by one sensationalist newspaper in order to boost circulation. Initially Valenzuela and his crimes were reported in the media under various different names, nicknames and labels before settling on the image of the Jackal. While the Spanish news media appear to have used the label: el Chacal de Nahueltoro, there appear to be few reliable English sources that use the equivalent English translation of this phrase apart from when referring to the film. To get around the ambiguous title, this article could be moved to the person's formal name Jorge del Carmen Valenzuela Torres or something similar or else merged into the article about the film of the same name. However, I am not yet certain about the best course of action, apart from believing the current title is not the best one. Does anyone else have other ideas? - Cameron Dewe (talk) 04:21, 9 January 2022 (UTC)
- Agree about moving (I moved The Jackal of Pupunahue for the same MOS reason), however Jackal of Nahueltoro already exists as a page about the film. We could in theory move that to Jackal of Nahueltoro (film) or as you suggest move this page to a page named after the killer. Jorge Valenzuela at the moment does not require disambiguation. - Jorge Valenzuela Torres works too, thanks to Template:Family name hatnote. Certainly allows for more disambiguation. Paris1127 (talk) 03:09, 8 October 2023 (UTC)
