As far as I know Tu-22M is able to carry 3 Kh-22 missiles while the original Tu-22 is only able to carry one. So I would assume either one Tu-22M3 was involved or three plain Tu-22 or 6 missiles hit something else. I was not able to find the source for the aircrafts in the references to the articles.
