Unable to kill any birds besides small sparrows and hummingbirds.

The statement, "...able to break skin but unable to kill any birds besides small sparrows and hummingbirds" is not at all realistic. On a dare, I was able to kill a Blue Jay sitting on a fence in my back yard. The Blue Jay was on one side of my yard, and my friend and I were on the other side of my yard (using the opposing fence as a way to steady my aim. I would say the distance between gun and bird was at least 30 yards. I aimed about 3 feet ABOVE the bird to intentionally MISS the bird, but gravity pulled the BB down and I hit the bird square in the chest. The Blue Jay didn't squak, flutter, or anything -- it literally just fell about four feet to the ground with a dead "thud". I've always felt very guilty about it, and have never forgotten it. That was 31 years ago.

Please remove the statement, "...able to break skin but unable to kill any birds besides small sparrows and hummingbirds", as it is inaccurate. 70.169.212.130 (talk) 22:36, 18 December 2009 (UTC)

Looks like I'm not the only one with such an experience. I considered my Red Ryder an indirect-fire weapon, the way it arced so much, and I recall hitting a member of a small invasive species of bird in the head from 10 feet away and having him look at me in puzzlement, but not flying away even after multiple hits on the noggin'....but on the other hand, I hit a large bird atop a tree from the approximately 25 yards away on the ground--and the BB passed through its neck and killed it. Daisy DID produce a Red Ryder BB Gun with a compass in the stock

The article states:

"The movie's fictional BB gun, described as the "Red Ryder carbine-action, two hundred shot Range Model air rifle with a compass in the stock and a thing which tells time", does not correspond to any production model in existence nor even a prototype; the Red Ryder featured in the movie was specially made to match author Jean Shepherd's story (which may be artistic license, but was the configuration Shepard claimed to remember)."

This information is incorrect. A friend of mine has a model 1938B version of this Daisy BB rifle which not only has the compass but the sundial to boot. I took detailed photos to prove it. I'd be happy to supply the photos for the page but honestly, the hoops required to learn the ins and outs of editing a wiki page is way beyond the effort I want to put into correcting this error.

Is there anyone out there that I could send these pix to that would be willing to post these photos and change the article?

The only reason I bothered at all is because I cited this page's information during a radio broadcast prior to seeing the gun owned by my friend. Now I feel a bit silly for taking this info at face value.
