[edit]Several links pointed to "Putumayo" but were not meant to lead to the Putumayo Department. The Putumayo region is much older and larger than the recent department. It is recentism to have Putumayo point to Putumayo Department. Pedro Gonzalez-Irusta (talk) 01:53, 7 February 2013 (UTC)

Putumayo (disambiguation) → Putumayo – Putumayo first and foremost refers to the river and the valley. It can also be taken as the Putumayo region - the region where the valley is. The region is split between Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. There are administrative units named "Putumayo" and located in the region. Since people revert "Putumayo" to point to the unit in Colombia, readers may be mislead. Let Putumayo point to "Putumayo (disambiguation)" or if this is not possible then move "Putumayo (disambiguation)" to "Putumayo". This will result in a situation as with Amazonas, where the ambiguity is solved straightforward. Pedro Gonzalez-Irusta (talk) 20:47, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
- Support disambiguation, clearly many different uses depending on the country you're in. -- 65.92.180.137 (talk) 21:28, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
- Support: There may even be a case for Putumayo being a redirect to Putumayo River, and treating the river as the primary topic, but in any case the proposal would be an improvement. Skinsmoke (talk) 04:23, 8 February 2013 (UTC)
- Rename there is no reason to provalege the article on the place in Columbia over the one on the place in Peru.John Pack Lambert (talk) 00:48, 9 February 2013 (UTC)
- Support per nom. Ran into this a few days ago looking for Putumayo World Music. — AjaxSmack 05:14, 9 February 2013 (UTC)
- Support: seems reasonable, none of the entries is obvious primary topic. PamD 15:34, 9 February 2013 (UTC)
