Citation 49, under the Launch section, throws an error when clicked on. I can't access the resource anymore. Any help? RteeeeKed💬📖 19:29, 8 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The archive link is bad but the original IGN link works. Likely needs to be re-archived. Masem (t) 19:43, 8 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Masem: I don't think using IAB would fix that right? It would jsut see that htere's an archive link and move along. Or would I just have to remove the archive link and then run IAB? ― Blaze WolfTalkblaze__wolf 19:49, 8 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Well, try removing it and then running IAB. Can't hurt, right? RteeeeKed💬📖 20:27, 8 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I tried it, and it's telling me that I need the analyzepage permission. I think I have the User group, and that should make it work, but it's not, so I don't know what's happening. RteeeeKed💬📖 20:32, 8 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have fixed it with a different archive link Masem (t) 21:06, 8 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. RteeeeKed💬📖 21:28, 8 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong description of RAM type, muddled wording.

[edit]

In the following section under Console heading then Hardware, in the 2nd paragraph, reference is made to 1T-SRAM both to 24MBytes and 64MBytes, the latter is wrong, and should be 64MBytes of GDDR3 not 1T-SRAM. The 24Mbytes of 1T-SRAM is the right ammount and type though all the wording in that section is very sloppy and confusing. 184.151.230.61 (talk) 00:38, 19 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Shibata and others

[edit]

Why is there no mention or quotes from Nintendo of Europe, or Nintendo of Australia or Nintendo of Korea, CEO's, COO's or marketing directors in regards to the Wii and Wii u? There's already a staggering 4! quotes from Reggie Fils-Aimé across the Wii and Wii U articles, yet none from Satoru Shibata, Stephen Bole, Tom Enoki, Hiroyuki Fukuda, Matthias Hempfling, Et-cetera. 68.189.2.14 (talk) 09:36, 11 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A Majority of the Wii Sales happend outside United States of America, yet somehow there's a quote from Julian Eggebrecht. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.189.2.14 (talk) 09:52, 11 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Discontinuation date evidence

[edit]

is there any actual proof that wii (wii mini specifically) was discontinued in 2017??? and before anyone mentions news articles like the one about netflix, the claim that wii was discontinued predates the article (article: november 2018 | edit first listing 2017 discontinue date: january 2018). the only source provided is that wii was removed from nintendo's online store in march 2017, as seen in the wayback machine. but as i'm sure ferret remembers from my attempts to find discontinuation dates for the various 3ds models last june, the date a system is removed from nintendo's website does not count as the discontinuation date, and is considered original research. something that backs up the march 2017 date being false is that starfyfan53's original source, the one that was originally used as evidence for the 2017 date, lists wii u still being available as late as early july 2018, despite it being well documented fall 2016 internationally, and january 2017 in japan, meaning that nintendo's offical store was continuing to sell preexisting stock, rather than the baseless claims i've seen of "did you know wii and nintendo switch were briefly being manufactured side by side???"

if actual, verifiable, non-original research proving once and for all that production of wii ended in in 2017 is found, great!!! but if not, we should put the 2017 claim to bed. SpinelFan64 (talk) 02:33, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Selling backstock / preexisting stock doesn't mean the system is not discontinued. Discontinuation is generally seen as the end of manufacturing, regardless of stock levels or how long they linger in stocks before selling out. I have no other direct insight on the sourcing of discontinuation of the Mini. SiliconEra is seen as a reliable source currently, and simply flat states it was discontinued in 2017. Barring some source that contradicts that, it's good enough for us. -- ferret (talk) 12:53, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
yes, i was actually using the point that the selling of backstock is exactly why the 2017 discontinuation date might be false, because since we know nintendo was selling wii u backstock as late as july 2018, despite the system being discontinued in late 2016/early 2017
and the siliconera article was published in november 2018, after the article for wii was edited to show the 2017 discontinuation date in january 2018, meaning it is very likely that a game of telephone happened where the siliconera article was using the wikipedia article as the source for the 2017 date, and now the wikipedia article is using it as a source, creating a looping cycle of misinformation SpinelFan64 (talk) 23:17, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sympathetic to citogenesis arguments. So right now what we know is the Mini came off the official store in 2017. -- ferret (talk) 23:47, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
but wii u came off the official store in july 2018, yet we have verifiable sources saying it was discontinued fall 2016 in the west and january 2017, meaning the wii mini still being listed was probably just backstock. by this logic, if the wii mini was discontinued in 2017, than the wii u would've been discontinued in 2018. SpinelFan64 (talk) 01:57, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's not what I asked. I'm not applying any logic here. I simply asked for just a straight confirmation that what we know is that the Mini came off the store in 2017. Not that it was discontinued. That it left the store in 2017. -- ferret (talk) 02:20, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
oh! on january 19, 2018, now-deleted user starfyfan53 stated that while they couldn't find an offical announcement, wii's section on the north american nintendo online store was removed, using a link from the wayback machine on march 23, 2017 as proof, saying that it was still on the store on a caption from the day before, meaning the system was likely discontinued

Ok so we don't have any clear sourcing at all, but a basic "SKYISBLUE" claim based on the webpage changing. That's close but I don't think it is quite good enough. We might need to at least add a note clarifying that it is "before 2017"? I'm not sure how to word it. NA was out of stock apparently in 2017. Manufacturing halt would have been before that. -- ferret (talk) 03:08, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
i'm not sure what to list either. the article for nintendo ds has the discontinuation date listed as a simple "yes" after years of debate on when that system was discontinued (all signs point to 2013 for ds, but i digress), which always bothered me, so it might not be the best fit. a vauge "mid 2010s" date might work, but it doesn't sound right either, so i'm at a bit of a loss.
